Anyone else managed to yank their's off? Yeah, I know about lifting the front end and working the wheel to make it easier to engage the 4wd, but sometimes things are a bit hairy and you want to make the front wheels pull NOW. Or maybe I'm impatient. Either way, my knob got off and then off again after an epoxy fix.

The second time I had to walk back to the house to get a large pair of channel locks or vice grips and a leather glove to protect the threads and yank the **** out of it into gear I decided it needed modified. So I welded up a T-handle one that lacks the instructions but I bet won't pull off in my hands. I will post a pic tomorrow if anyone's interested. But I'm mostly curious if others have experienced this problem. Thanks. -WSJ

mine goes in and out very easy, slightly hard to reach, and wished they would just put in that way and out that way,,that little tractor its kindda hard to tell if it the one with space in it or is it solid.:)

Not yet, mostly run in 4wd. hills and such.

Yes. Mine came off once. It's a poor choice of materials/design. I put it back on for now. I mostly leave my tractor in 4WD and when not, I'm careful to lift the front end so the knob moves easily. But when it fails, I'm just going to order one of those black phenolic knobs with a real metal thread insert. Don't know why Kioti hasn't improved the design. It clearly can be fixed without impacted their costs appreciably.

You might check and make sure there isn't a little bit of powder coating on the linkage.
Spray PB blaster where the shaft enters the case.
Then grease everything and work the lever.

Good points but not applicable in my case. The tractor's 4 years old and has almost 400 hours on it. The linkages are clean and greased and the front axle has the correct amount of gear oil. Different things can make a manual front wheel assist bind slightly or not engage at all in some situations, but the knob ought to stay attached anyway.

I agree. Under no circumstances should a man be able to pull the knob off or bend it with his bare hands. It should be a lot stronger than it is.

I wasn't arguing the integrity of the knob, just giving a few pointers that might help you out.

I put a stainless steel gear clamp on mine after I ripped mine off trying to get it into 4wd. It pretty much stays there. I know switch it out now and then to make sure it does not lock up. the gear clamp holds it on there good.

I just make sure I am moving forward when I give it a shove with my hand, either going into or out of 4X4. Now if you are already stuck, well, that's just poor planning!
