Discussing Palladin in another thread got me thinking about all the western shows we've watched.

Here are ones I can recall watching, how about you? What ones were your fav's?

Gunsmoke (a great show)
The Big Valley (man was the daughter cute!)
Rifleman (man was he a big guy)
The Virginian (Ok, not the best of them)
The Westerner (good but not as popular)
Bonanza (could Adam fall in love and lose the girl any more frequently)
The Black Saddle (again, less well known)
Judge Roy Bean (didn't he become Uncle Joe in Hooterville?)
Have Gun Will Travel (loved that show except for the odd stupid episode)
The Lone Ranger (kinda campy but couldn't take my eyes off it)
The Last of the Mohicans (my parents called me Hawkeye)

I did a search to see what I'd missed or forgotten and found this incredible list of old westerns

Wow Jimmy, that looks like a pretty comprehensive list. I like to watch old westerns too, they show some on TVLand channel - Gunsmoke and Bonanza mostly.

I have a question, do any of you ever see Gunsmoke episodes from when Dennis Hopper played Chester? I never see those older shows and wonder if it will change now that Dennis Hopper has died.

Never saw him, at least not that I recall. It's amazing how the same actors got from show to show. I got the list just off Google.

I don't recall ever knowing of Dennis Hopper playing Chester at all, but I've seen lots of episodes in which Dennis Weaver played Chester.

O.K. You might have mentioned this show but I don't recall the name. Lead actor went on to become a star if I remember correctly. Carried a sawed off shotgun for a pistol and I think he was a bounty hunter..."Bounty Hunter" the name of the show? early to mid-sixties.

That was good old Steve McQueen in Wanted dead or alive. It was a sawed off rifle though I recall. LOL, I'd forgotten that one. Another classic!

Spent all of last week watching reruns of Hawaii Five O. Did we really dress like that in the mid sixties, drive those 6 thousand pound cars with no seatbelts or head rest. Cops were the fuzz, everything was grovey?

Yep, sawed off rifle. Then in El Dorado, John Wayne's sidekick, Jame Caan, used a sawed off shotgun that looked very similar.

As a kid, I loved the Bat Masterson series so much that all I wanted for Christmas was a Bat Masterson Walking Cane. The one I wanted had a place you could put a cap inside the head of the cane and if you tapped it on the ground, the cap would go, "POP!" What fun!:D

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see 'Red Ryder'....

was a comic strip then on radio and TV and movies...

later on his kid side kick "little beaver" was played by Robert Blake (Baretta/ wife killer)

It called a "Mare's Leg"
You too can have one if you really want!

In 2008, Legacy Sports International introduced a Mare's Leg. It is made by Chiappa in Italy, imported for Legacy, and sold under the brand name Puma. This Puma 92 is named the Bounty Hunter. It is available in several calibers including; .44 magnum, .45 Colt, and .44-40. With a 12 inch barrel, no shoulder stock, and a receiver that has never been built into a rifle, it is considered a pistol by the ATF

Well, many of the early TV series were based on existing radio series that we used to listen to. We never missed an episode of Dragnet or Suspense. Have Gun Will Travel was also one of our radio favorites. Here is a link to a list of old time radio programs. I'd bet some of the older members here see a lot of names we remember from the days before television was common. I know we didn't get a TV in our home until 1956.

Have Gun Will Travel was certainly one of my favs, and still wins for the "cool" factor. The name "Paladin", the horsehead logo, black outfit, etc. have always had a very high cool factor for me. Wanted Dead or Alive & Maverick may be my top 3, but I loved all the Warner Bros westerns that came in the early 60s....Cheyenne, Sugarfoot, Bronco Lane, Lawman (John Russell). Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and many others will always be classics. Which leads to the question...was there ever a really BAD western series? If so, I don't seem to recall it.

Oh yeah...The Rifleman was a favorite of mine too.

I remember listening to Gunsmoke on the radio, anyone remember why Chester had a limp. Also, there was one western that had a deputy called Shotgun Gibbs, anyone recall the name of the show?

Good list, did you find any sites you could free and legally download any of them without a signup requirement and e-mail address so you don't get any of their junk mail?

Was Mr. Gibbs with Hugh O'Brien? That was another good'un.
