I was looking at a Utility Vehicle and it was priced at around 12K, I know some are around 8 - above 12K , but heres my point.

I saw an ad for a closeout 2011 Ford 150 with air for 14K. How is it that they can get 12K for all these small utility vehicles and a pickup is darn near the same price. Now if you had a large enough property and paid cash you wouldn't have to buy plates or insure the Ford so that wouldn't be an issue over the utility vehicles.

OK rant over.:confused2:

We could by much cheaper utility vehicles if we wanted them to be bare bones like the F150 for $14k is, knock off the 4 wheel drive, locking diff, dump bed,...... then we could be buying $4 or $5k buggies but most folks don't want them.

I do agree they are expensive and likely far overpriced but I don't want to give anything up on them so I'll pay it and pretend to like it.

I agree with you...I could have bought a 1 year old GMC 4x4 for what I paid for my RTV1100..I knew that when I signed the check.

Cant take a pickup in the woods. Can't easily plow residential driveways with a pickup.

Besides, if you can afford it...Why not waste some money?:D

Me and my daughter went for a 1 hour ride through the pastures and woods that I couldn't do with a truck...Sometimes money just doesn't matter.

YA I get the small vehicle in the woods, but for me it's a price value ratio thing. I also get if you got it spend it because we can't take it with us.

It just chaps my hide that these manufacturers are getting what they are getting for these UTV's when so much more metal and work plus air conditioning etc go into a full size vehicle.

I just contacted a manufacturer in China who makes these things and asked for a price on a 4x4 with a dump and they came back at 5K, now that I think is reasonable, but 12K?

Sometimes you get what you pay for. I've seen less expensive UTVs at TSC (Bristers?) and HD (Bull Dog?). There appeared to be a world of difference between the construction of those products and the UTVs from Kubota, Kawasaki, Polaris, etc. I'm not sure how well the TSC/HD products would fare in handling the tasks that the others would handle with ease.

You guys are missing a very important point: scale of production. Pickups are built in far greater quantities than any UTV- that allows them to get the per unit cost and price down. There's far more to the pricing equation than just pounds of steel and technical complexity.

Same reason why many of us pay more for our CUTs than we did for our FSPU's!

Because we can.:D

Back in 2001 I also thought the utv 's were expensive ( 3010 4x4 mule ) then I remembered what I paid for my 1994 atv ( yamaha grizzly 4x4 ) and it was only 2500.oo more . and it was 7 yrs newer . I bought the mule and it was worth the money . Still have them both .

Because we can...With you there..My BX stays in an air conditioned garage. At the time it was the most expensive thing I owned, next to the house.
