New Puppy NEED help

Ok took the puppies to the vet and everything is ok with them. He thinks she has separation anxiety. Just have to deal with it now and see if we can over come it with her. She is in a pen 15x15 with her sis so she can get plenty of exercise and can run around. The pen is attached to by backyard so she goes in there when the kids are out just to b able to move about and learn new areas. Im not getting rid of her just bcuz shes a mutt. Some of the best dogs ive had were mutts and yes ive have gotten dogs from "reputable breeders" and was one myself at one time. But that being said "Some of our PURELINE breeds now were mutts. What i mean is that some breeder took two dogs of diff breeds and make a new breed. AKA mutt but somebody gave them a name and now they have a breed name. Quess i could call mine golden labs and start a new breed lol. But any how thanks to all that help, alot of sound advice out there. Ill keep yall posted on the puppies.

Please don't confuse a reputable breeder with the man/woman you just described.

We have those same type of people who advertise in the "thrifty nickle" and they are not breeders, they're scam artists looking for nothing more than to make a quick buck at the expense of an animal.

RTII is right on the money! And I would not use any pain or negative reinforcement on a pup or full grown dog either. A good trusting relationship comes with love, proper training, (usually the training has more to do with training the person on how to train the dog properly, first), and attention.The poor pup just needs to get adjusted and find his place in your family.

Now if you have a pack of deer dogs or working dogs on a farm I suppose that may be different, since they are not considered pets...just animals. Kids...(and not goats), are the same way...

What do you think of the Labradoodles, Goldendoodles and the like? Did we need new breeds of dogs, or is it somebody creating a novelty for profit? And people buying them for the novelty factor.

It's a split decison for me, since most current breeds were created in much the same way, it's hard to criticize in that regard. If someone wouldn't have done it, many of the popular breeds of today wouldn't exist.

Glad the vet didn't find any health issues with the barking puppy.

In my rural county population of 37,000 people, the local county animal shelter puts down well over 1,000 dogs a year because they are "unwanted".

For myself, buying a "designer breed" dog is sort of like spending 50k to go overseas to adopt a baby, forgetting the fact that there are many unwanted children here in the United States.

You're right, Dave. Every modern dog can be traced back to wild ancestors, so technically they are all "mixes". However, the main difference between most designer breeds and the breeds recognized by the big organizations (AKC,UKC, FCI) are that recognized breeds breed true.
Just like most of the recognized breeds we are all familiar with, the dogs you mentioned were bred with a purpose in mind, to create a non-allergenic, non-shedding service dog out of two breeds that already function well, Goldens and Labs. They tried to do this my mixing in Poodle, a non-shedding and relatively speaking hypo-allergenic breed. And that's when the bandwagon started... schnoodles, puggles, yorkiepoos... and a slew of other designer breeds followed. IMO bred more for the cool names attached to them than anything else. What a lot of people don't realize though is that to actually have a goldendoodle or a labradoodle the dog needs to be four generations old. In other words, if the dog's mother was a poodle and its father a lab, it's a mutt. It will not breed true with another. The pups could look like anything and have temperaments scattered to the winds. Unfortunately though, these designer breeds all have their own registries and they will register anything for a price... and the general public is very naive and will buy them, thinking they have a purebred mix :confused2:

Me and my wife have been rescuing dogs and finding homes for them for 15years. We also have very expensive registered Dachshunds. This is the most incorect statement I have every heard! It is obvious you don't know much about dogs.

I can't find the source, but I recently read that cat & dog births outnumber human births by 7:1 in the USA.

I see where you are coming from, but ... the development of animal breeds used to be quite common and a thing of pride. This applies to chickens, horses, dogs, cats, cows, pigs, and sheep at least and probably others. Animal husbandry and breeding made a real difference in the ability of small farms to survive and adapt to local conditions.

Now, whether a Labradoodle will help you survive is a silly question, but the heritage of developing breeds does continue in small numbers. You are basically taking the stance that since so many abuse dog ownership, there is no room for those with integrity and love of dogs who wish to pursue selective breeding. What happens if the existing breeds are the only breeds forever? That may be a bad thing overall for domestic dogs in and of itself.

I think most new breeds were novelties when introduced and the better ones became recognized and valued standards over time.

I really am not committed either way, nor do I have an urge to start a new dog breed. Just throwing stuff on the wall to see if it sticks. It's a good way to learn things from others

Only my opinion, but the only thing the AKC is about now is money.

Quickest way to find a reputable breeder? One who doesn't give you the animal just because you give them the cash. They're getting harder and harder to find nowadays.

Perhaps part of my point is that we should take care of what we have now before trying to cook a dinner that no one can finish.
