Mahindra 5035
Bought a new 5035 and when I engauge the pto my new 6' rotary mower bangs the blades together. Mahindra said to get used to it, it's the nature of the beast. Has anyone got some good advice on this one?

Doubt the blades are banging together. What brush hog/rotary cutter do you have.

Peek under there (PTO off :D) and see how those blades swing loose from the center arm. Such that when the PTO kicks in, it will take a couple revs to get them straightened out. They bang a bit when that happens. Same when it stops.

Normal, unless the banging is against something bent under there.

Assume you are talking regular rotary cutter here, and not a mower that has a timing belt to keep the blades apart.

Doubt its the blades banging together, they are just getting thrown into position. It should only last about a second and everything should get smooth. Mine does this everytime.

Engage the PTO at idle speed. Mine bangs on PTO engagement also, but quits after 1/2 to 3/4 of a revolution. Lots of times on shut down, one blades swings forward and one swings backward on the hub is all it is.

When you engage the blades too fast, the stump jumper rotates before the blades do and the blades swing backwards relative to the stump jumper and clack together. Look at the back edges of your blades and you will see the dented spot where they meet.

Definitely engage at idle speed! My neighbor's mower threw a blade from the eye hole breaking out. From the direction of where the crack started and the heavy impact evidence where the blades meet the break was due to this startup effect. He has a ford 4000 and the PTO clutch is pretty abrupt.

Not sure if your 5035 has this option, but with my 4110 I do this:

1. Push in the clutch
2. Reduce engine to idle
3. Set the PTO to 'Auto'
4. Slowly let the clutch out a tad and push it back as soon as the PTO starts to spin, then let the clutch out all the way.
5. Switch the PTO mode to 'Manual'

Not as complicated as it sounds and reduces the start-up banging to almost nothing. I figure this is a bit easier on the u-joints as well.

Any pics of rotary cutters/mowers where the blades can meet? I see where they can come in contact with the stumpjumper pan, but one blade hitting another.

Help me out, if the blades can actually hit one another. :)

Had a buddy of mine look under the brush hog as I engauged the pto (I know it sounds dumb) but the blades are banging toether. I contacted 2 different dealers and spoke with their shop formans and both told me Mahindra has a problem with this and I would just have to live with it. I then spoke with the district rep, and he said Mahindra has an issue with this and it was even worse without the accumulator which is what the fix is supposed to be. The rep said Mahindra wasn't going to put the accumulators on the tractors but he convinced them otherwise. The rep said not to even try to run a rotary mower without a slip clutch, or you will spend all of your time replacing shear bolts, in short I was told to live with it. I quote, "It's just the nature of the beast" I say I spent over $20,000.00 on a new tractor and it needs to be right. Any suggestions on my next course of action. I have tried to ease it in with the clutch with no luck, (I was told there is no easing into the pto its all or none by the rep.) I even pulled into some 6' tall johnson grass and all it did was sling the blades together and lock them and I had to take a sledge and knock them apart. I have also made sure the blades were straight across from each other before engauging the pto..no luck. My old 2810 didn't do this.
