What do you mean by "wrong way"?

Maybe I did mine wrong?!

Not answering for him but the tin you used looks like up is pretty obvious and you can only overlap just the one ridge.

The strong barn ruffles chip style tin you could easily not get enough overlap and cause leaks. I don't think that's your problem from my point of view. I believe its the nails and sealer should fix it from what i have read so far or get a slide hammer nail puller and remove all those and screw it this time if you have the patience.

One side has what I call a foot, other side is shorter that goes on top. When I was much younger I looked at it and thought long side must go on top, I was wrong

I'm pretty sure I got foam plastic seals for my ridge cap. Seems to me they were part of the package I got with the Galvalume roofing material I bought. Without a seal like that, there's a pretty big gap where the cap sits on top of the ridges in the metal. My 24x36 doesn't leak at all.
BTW, I did use the rubber gasketed scews.

Chuck ... Yeah, there is a big gap, 3/4" high & about 8" long each, according to the dimensions I see ... So, your foam plastic seals actually sealed all those gaps?? I guess air just exists thru vents you have in your gable ends?

I agree that it sounds like a ridge cap problem...I second the idea of the foam gaskets...

It is probably worth the effort to climb up there the next time it is raining for confirmation...

just curious...does it drip even in a light rain with no wind ?

I gotcha ... Good word there, "foot" ... Yes, I installed mine with the foot edge sitting right on the 2x4 runners & the non-foot edge on top of that foot edge.

I did a metal roof several years ago. The plans called for strip caulking the full length of the overlaps. It was like double back tape, but much thicker. Did you use caulking?

The second source of leaks has to do with placement of the nails or screws. It was tempting to put them "outside" the caulk line, i.e., closer to the edge of the top sheet. The thinking there (incorrect) is that the caulk line is not broken. The problem with that is that water rides up the bottom sheet, and enters at the nail hole on that sheet. Remember, the rubber gasket only seals the top sheet.

The correct way was to put the nail/screw either inside or through the caulk strip. Then water on the bottom sheet cannot get past the caulk to enter the structure.

The roof done that way has not leaked for more than 25 years.
