So why do you buy Deere? Even when times are tough?

I don't think people buying the mowers give it much thought. When you consider the average person buying a Deere product at the BBS they are buying it because of name recognition and/or price. The discussion about whether to go to a full dealer to make the purchase doesn't cross their minds. Also the $1500 to $2600 for the mowers is a lot to spend in their eyes. These younger homeowners are balancing a budget where they can buy the new washer dryer and the new lawnmower. This is quite easy to understand.

While most of us are interested in tractors (on TBN) the rest of the world could care less.

A few years back, when I bought my lake cabin (which is a few hundred miles from home) I saw the Deere lawn tractors at the distant big-box store and bought one. I didn't have a clue where the Deere Dealer was located (he was only a few blocks away) or if he sold the same stuff. The mower was on sale and I needed one. I figured it was made OK for my needs and had the Deere label on it.

The sales guy claimed the Deere Dealer would take care of any parts and service issues.....I was happy.

Later, after seeing the Deere dealership a few blocks away from my purchase, they had the same price available ...no more / no less. They didn't seem to care....and were focused on all the other products they had to offer.

but what backfire are you talking about
That you tried to call it socialism and it turned out to be pure capitalism?

Pure capitalism!! Now that is funny!

So, you're calling a 9.63% sales tax rate pure capitalism, when only 1% of it is related to a capitalist deal?

If you're not already, you should be a politician my friend!

Well, I would call 1% of it government-sponsored thievery.

Either way though, you can go here and see that 8.63% is very much in line with the entire country's urban rates.

Try not to forget that in general its capitalists who view sales tax as the most fair of all the taxes because they are payed proportionally to consumption while its leftie liberals who are against them because they are a larger percentage of a poor family's expenditures since we all have to eat and buy clothes.

You should consider actually refusing to shop there. And convincing others by explaining your example. A LOT of that will be the only way this kind of thing doesn't happen to us in the future.

As I said in my original post, I refuse to shop there unless I need something under $20 and I happen to be driving by the store on the way home.

Well, I would call 1% of it government-sponsored thievery.

All taxes have become government sponsored theft.

What's ironic is the county I live in is Demorrhoid controlled and has been for decades. It has the reputation of being Denver's dump due to the number of landfills that were just on the other side of Denver's northern border, along with the packing houses and rendering plants. Yet this county has some of the highest property taxes, etc in the metro area.

So much for helping the poor.

So you're saying they were supposed to help the poor due to the jobs but instead they have the highest property taxes in the area which is contrary to helping to poor?

Maybe its convenient to fund job development tax breaks with property tax increases.

I doubt it. Tax increases are designed to suck the wealth out of a person, and give it to someone else in exchange for their vote.

Very concisely stated!
