On my 1700 NH crosses differently to Wix and Fram. I started using Wix and it is closer to OEM that fram. Now that I compare fram to Wix realize how the Wix is superior to the fram I used to use.

JC,

JC I tried using the Wix oil filteron my 1700 and found the filter contacts the gasket after about 3/4 turn. I trust that is not your experience?

I can get filters locally for my TC40, from my local independant dealer/service shop, NAPA, and on other local parts store that deals with commercial/big rigs. I like Wix.

Otherwise, the closest NH dealer is about a 1.5 hour drive.

Same as above filters locally for my old Kubota and Farmall.

Howdy Mostly_gas,

I used both NH and Fram before. Now I have a Wix 51512 that I have not installed yet. It will be installed in my next oil change. A bit confused with your question, the Fram took several turns before fully seated... are you saying on Wix, it takes only a 3/4 turn before it is tight? The fram filter was a bit taller than Wix but same can dia and gasket dia was identical.

JC,

Note to self:

Ford oil filter/ NH 86546613 cross references to WIX 51512 ( This one is the right filter),

NH 86546613 crosses to Fram PH 2825 and Fram cross referenced to WIX 51034

JC I was talking about when filter gasket contact to engine block, add 3/4 turn for tight. I don't know which of the Wix filter you listed I tried, but was not happy with lack of thread engagement, wish I had more

Thanks for all the info. I found a NH dealer that stocks the older Hydraulic filter and decided to purchase all my filters from them.

My research told me that I could have gone with the Wix and saved about 3% and 30% with the Baldwin filters. Some of the NH dealers I talked to were a little irritated with the stock numbers changing so often but they said every time the manufacture changes so does the stock numbers. I like to support my manufacturer but that only goes so far and only a 3% savings doesn't cross the line. I didn't get bad responses from everyone I talked to about Baldwin just an unsure feeling but at 30% less, next time... maybe. :D I'll do more research before then and decide.

Bob, there is just no question with the New Holland filters. 3% is a no brainer. If I could have access to NH filters within 10% or even have ready access to them I would be there. WIX and Baldwin are good quality filters, but New Holland is New Holland. All the best, Tom

There are two or three sights that have rated oil filters. Some of the name brand filters are trading on their reputation from years ago and are now pure junk. Some of the ratings include, filter material, total filter area, filter efficiency, practical size, and internal bypass pressure, back flow check valves, canister quality, general construction quality, special additives and gimmicks. No names, make your own choice after reading the evaluations.
