Thanks! That is just the type of info I was looking for. Yours is really nice! I like to see old equipment refurbished and made to function as they were designed! Only thing I see wrong is what you are pulling it with. Looks more like a team of mules would be more authentic. If you have time, check my recent thread on an International Drill I found. You have already answered some of my questions here.

I've never understood all this food plot stuff. I deer hunted for 10 years, my late Dad deer hunted for over 50 years and neither of us ever done anything
more than throw out corn, apples and pears. We always hunted from permanent stands that we built.

I've never understood all this food plot stuff. I deer hunted for 10 years, my late Dad deer hunted for over 50 years and neither of us ever done anything

Several reasons for food plots. One is it gives people like me a reason to use tractors and implements! It does provide a source of nutrition for the deer population, supplements their diet, can produce bigger deer and antler development in this age of trophy hunting (and you must admit, it has always been more exciting to kill a big deer or catch a big fish). It also can draw deer to your property and keep them there. Baiting like you mentioned is illegal here in S.C. so you cannot throw out corn or anything else and hunt near it. Whereas, hunting over or near food plots is legal. Our food plots are more like shooting lanes. It is so thick on our property that the only visibility is in the long narrow opennings we created. Having them planted gives the deer a reason to stop when he crosses and allows for a good look to assess the age and size. When your Dad started hunting 50 years ago, the deer population in this country was quite different. Proper scientific management has caused a great resurgence in the deer population in areas like where I live, where deer were non-existent 50 years ago. Food plots are one of those management tools. And because of them, I have a reason to sit on my tractor!

I do find the subject of deer food plots interesting. Deer eat all the corn and crops they can ingest in my area. Putting out corn to eat is insulting to them. Deer around here taste like lean beef. I did plant a 1 acre alfalfa plot 2 years ago. No alfalfa for a few miles and it stays green when most other plants have gone dormant. Makes a great hunting spot. Deer numbers are so high, the state started a second rifle hunting season this year for does only.

The first food plot I planted was a "special" grass mix for deer. Yeah, it grew a lot of grass but they could care less. There was grass and corn everywhere. The "special" mix went dormant way before the deer season. Was useless. Now I gave them alfalfa. For get the meal and just go for the dessert!
