Subsoiler

I'm guessing the serpentine path is due to the coiled tension.
No matter, it works and it is close enough.

I have read through this thread a couple of times and have been unable to determine if you pushed or pulled the subsoiler? My reason for asking is: I have been thinking about a subsoiler for a skid steer and am curious if pushing is an option. I have a 3 point hitch for my skid steer so very little modification would be required to mount a subsoiler.

If you were referring to my serpentine path, it was because I had to go around a garden fence, two fruit trees, the fence around our pool, a sycamore stump, around the flower bed, under the fence and behind the kids' playground. :laughing:

I pushed it. Here is a picture of the attachment I made to do it. I just pushed a slice the entire path that I wanted to follow and made sure there were no roots, rocks and obstructions. Then I went back to the beginning, laid out the pipe, tied the start of the pipe to a rope, tied the rope through the bottom hole in the back of the plow blade and retraced my 1st slice. It took a very short time and was quite easy.

That sounds like a lot of turns, but it really was just a slow lazy S curve. :laughing:

Appreciate the insights....for our needs I'm still thinking this through. Our soil is sandy loam but with rocks and lots of roots. I've no doubt the power is there but I'm not so sure pulling pipe will be the ticket even if we slice smooth. I'm pondering a slightly wider v shaped slicer with pipe on a spool above....pipe feeds through a backwards facing tube into the "trench" behind the knife...maybe 1 foot down

I also considered that method, but I would have had to obtain the correct I.D. pipe and build the contraption. I already had the soil slicer, so I decided to give it a try first. I'm glad I did. :thumbsup:

Here's a link to a thread I started about it back in May.

Yes, but I was thinking of this part more than your planned route;

"What I was surprised about was this...

The pipe followed a serpentine route with a bit S curve. Af...."

So.... Pushing vs Pulling. I am SO very confused.

I get such better results pulling my box blade. I guess it is part due to design, but I have to say my PT feels stronger going in reverse than forward. Pulling the cutter seems to make more sense than pushing it, except for the driving part. I guess in terms of stress it is probably about the same? Just 4000lbs coming to a sudden stop hurt worse going forward than in reverse (?)
