I have been looking for an extra tractor to help out in my seeding and snow removal operations.

I ended up stumbling across a "Blue" Montana 4940C. I guess I always thought that the Montanas with cabs were all green and some of the Lower end cabless units were Blue?

Does anyone know a little more history on these units?

That is interesting, I didnt think Farmtrac had a cabbed model but as far as I know all the blue tractors are from when Montana bought Farmtrac. Is it called a limited series?

Being Blue and a 4940 would mean that it is an old unit. One of the first group of units that LS supplied to Montana.

So it appears... The LS machines first provided to Montana were blue in color and then they started painting them green and now LS markets them for themselves with out Montana back in blue?? oh and the Farmtrac LS machines were blue, but a darker shade?? I do like the looks of the green Montana with the silver wheels better than the light blue.

Correct!

LS supplied these tractors to a company named Agracat before Montana bought them out. So you can add another company to the mix of LS supplied units.

Thanks for the awnsers. The machine posted above on tractorhouse, is the machine I am pondering.

Doesn't seem like to bad of a deal to me. I really don't need anything to fancy. Plus I have a Montana/farmtrac/other misc tractor dealer not to far from me. Repair might not be to much of an issue if need be.

My shop neighbor also has a 5940C with older style loader arms, and he swears by his. Uses it in his winery operation.

I have the U4984 I believe it has the same Mitsy engine in it. I choose an open station because of my situation. I will put that tractor up against any so called name brand tractor out there. I just have nothing bad to say about it.

I will second the vote for a Montana. I have the U4384 and absolutely love the machine. It looks good and does everything I ask of it. I have brush hogged my property and tilled up 2.5 acres of food plots this fall. I also rented a 6' Harley Rake this past spring and spread 11 dumptruck loads of topsoil and 3 dumptruck loads of shale to complete my lawn prior to seeding. I got it for $14500. I couldn't pass up the deal when compared to other top brand tractors were going closer to 22,000 to 23,000.
