JD 3x20 Series...Narrow Track????

When I had physically looked at the 3120 model in the past, I didn't think the tire track was any if much narower than the Kubota L3400 or the Mahindra 3215 models I was looking at. However, if you do a search you will find a thread that talks about adding axle spacers to add more width and stability to this series. I did notice that the front tires tracked a little wider than the rear. When I operated the FEL up and down the whole tractor seemed to shutter a bit more than the others. Deere recommends highly to have some counter balance on the 3 point and I'm sure filling the rear tires would help. I'm not sure if possibly there is a higher center of gravity causing this in these models., but both the Kubota and Mahindra felt more stable. Oh, by the way, if you can measure the width from the center to center of each rear tire, my Mahindra measures 48", if this helps for comparison, or outside tire tread to outside tire tread measurement on mine with R4s is 61".

While several tire sizes are available the 17.5/24 R4 is for the 4xxx series. That is what I have on the 4520 and 110tlb which are both set up for approximately a 72" overall width.

If you read the OP's 1st post....He clearly is asking about the 3x20 series tractor width. NO??.....or did I miss something?

I beleive its YOU that is having trouble with the new poster's question. (grin)

Also...Deere DOES have some very strange data in some of their literature (such as this tire width info). I think they must include orchard tractors or some specialty width stuff.....as some of the dimensions I have seen printed are a bit odd. You have to wonder sometimes.....who proof-reads tech data for them?

I guess I am confused why the 3x20 series "minimum tread width" appears smaller than the comparables...as I posted? Probably not as it appears in the published data?

Either the stats are correct...and the 3x20 JDs ARE a bit narrower...or they are not?

A bit narrower than what? How many inches and what model are you comparing to? I already posted a typical width above with R4 tires (58" to 60" depending on which way you turn the wheels). With R1 (Ag type tires) the wheels are adjustable in up to 8 width settings. Turf tires are still different.

Add to that they sometimes post the inside dimentions as minimum as well as outside (which I have seen and posted above).

So....specifically......what are you comparing to? Lots of differences depending on tractor series compared to.

You can go to John Deere's website....and in the site you can go to the technical specs for each model which will give you all the available tire and wheel combination's available.....and the front and rear width's. This data IS very complete and accurate. My tractor is 59.5" wide with the big R4's (if my memory serves) and I just rotated my tires from left to right to pick up two inches in width when I filled the tires with fluid this past week. My five foot bucket and five foot implements work just right with this tire width. Wider would NOT be better....for my situation.

I didn't have any problems with the posters questions but had brought up the fact that in Cindershnauzers post that the 17.5 24 tires were for the 4x20 series. You then commented that several sizes were available which is true but not the 17.5 24 R4's. Just to clarify I didn't mean you were incorrect.

Fundamental question is...Is the JD 3x20 series a bit on the narrow size compared to the Kubota Lxx00 series and Lxx40 series...in each case using comparable HP and weight models???? OR...do the 3x20 series just LOOK narrow when standing behind one in the dealers lot w/turf tires.

Are we talking minimum width or inside width? A 3320 with large R4's in the widest position measure just about 60" from outside of tire to outside of tire. The tires are 15" wide each, this makes the inside width just about 30". I can't imagine a minimum outside width be 40", it's not possible. Am I missing something in the questions, if so I apologize.

Rob...I am looking at page 5 ("3000 Twenty Series) of the JD 3000 Series brochure. Bottom right is a back view with dimensions shown..."MN Width 40.6" (1030 mm)"...the "narrative brackets" appear to be near inside of tire. It also shows "Width 68.4" (1737 mm)"...which appears to be outside tread measurements.

My question comes from two points...1) standing behind a couple of 3x20 JDs at dealership they "appear" narrow when visually compared with similar CUTs as I have cited above...and 2) the comparable "minimum width" stats on other CUTs...as cited above...is larger. I will be using on a variety of terrain and believe the track width may help with stability...thus my question.

Maybe all the stats has confused my question? Is the 3x20 JD series a bit more narrow than it's primary competitors?
