Dealer Mistake ?

I have a friend who bought a Kubota M5640SU 4-wheel drive with a loader. He got a reasonable price from one of the local dealers and a higher price from the other. He bought the tractor at the lower price. A while later the dealer calls and said he made a mistake that he priced out a 2-wheel drive not 4-wheel. He wanted a $1000 to cover the difference.

Any thoughts, I sure have some,
#1 I think the difference between 2 and 4 wheel is a lot more than $1000.
#2 is there was at least 3 months time between order and quote and delivery plus a month waiting for the loader at the dealers.

My thought is if the dealer made the mistake while doing the paper work and did not find his f-up until after the sale ,he should eat the cost himself. Other wise the the dealer my not have gotton the sale because of being cheaper on the price . I wouldn't pay anymore than the sale price he bought it for .

If you had bought the thing and a month later realized you could have gotten the thing for $1,000 cheaper at a different place do you think he would have renegotiated the rate? I think Not.

Unless this is a dealer that has been with you for years and has always been there I don't think I would consider giving him the money back. I think $1000 is less than a 4wd cost so perhaps he is trying to be reasonable. I don't know.

Are you saying he already has the tractor? Or only that he has ordered it?

Salesman make mistakes. I have gotten quotes only to have them call/write back in a week after they catch it. It happens.

Have you placed money down, based on the previous quote?
If so, you need to get a refund and walk away, which you can do.

It's entirely your call what to do next. No contracts signed? You are free to walk away and start over. You are also free to go ahead with the "new" deal.

Can't you tell by looking at the contract?

It looks like the buyer should have gone over the contract and should have noticed an error if there was one.

The 4wd will certainly be more than $1000 compared to 2wd, so the salesman is trying to make it right. Mistakes happen. This one is not huge but still irritating. The buyer can certainly walk away but the other price may still be higher than what this dealer is offering. The buyer can still negogiate the $1000 difference - make it lower, add a few other options installed for free at dealer cost (rear hydraulics, radio, more lights ....), buy an attachment at dealer cost ect. There are ways to hopefully satisfy both parties.

Well sorry about his bad luck. Its not ur friends fault the salesman made a goof. I too have made the same goof one time but i ate the diff cuz i had told the customer the price and i stuck to it. I Never made that mistake again. Like someone else said thow $1000 for 4x4 doesnt sound right.

Who is the Dealer? I need a PD35 and RTA25 - maybe they'll quote it low accidentally. :laughing: j/k

My friend already took delivery of the tractor, a week later the dealer called and asked for more cash, nothing more than making the buyer feel guilty.

This is the owner of the dealership that is doing the sales and calls.

I figure if the asking price was paid thats it papers are all signed and delivered.
