Missing fuel tank screen

There used to be a black plastic screen about 5 inches below the filler neck of the fuel tank on my B7500HST. Now it is gone. It must have dropped down into the tank. As evidence, one day the fuel level was acting goofy and the screen may have been touching it.

Anyone ever have this happen and had success getting the screen out? I tried fishing around with a hook-ended wire to no avail. (also did a Kubota forum search before posting this)

Take a mag light with new batteries, and a coat hanger with a sharp end bent up in a hook. You may have to remove the fuel tank if you have trouble seeing the screen.

Should be a simple fix.

Oh yeah, you'll need to have a pair of needle nose pliers handy, when you hook that screen.

Let it get just about to empty. Then in a dark barn, or at night, shine a flashlight into the tank and see if you can see it.

It should be laying on the bottom in plain sight. Then you can better fish it out.

Glad I wasn't the only one this happened to. I guess I should pull mine out.

If you do remove the screen you risk dirt getting into the tank. Configure the screen not to fall into the tank, its your first line of defense from dirt.

Actually, the first line of defense is the gas cap. The screen is not fine enough to keep out dust and fine dirt.

My understanding is that the screen is used to filter fuel as it is added. People store diesel in many ways and foreign objects seem to come out of nowhere. For my uses a funnel with a screen in the neck does the job. The screen in the tractor seems to back up the fuel for some reason so it is removed, the tank filled, and then it is replaced.

Oddly, the L48 has a screen while the M7040, BX2200, and L3650 didn't come new with a fuel screen.

I have gotten fuel and found things at the bottom of my clean can. As for spillover, it is simply a mater of how fast the filter screen cans pas fuel.
The filter may also be blocking the air in the tank from escaping.

I just took a look at it after darkness set in and, as mentioned above, it is impossible to see the bottom of the tank because the top entrance is cantilevered out over the top of the engine. I'll just fish around some more with a wire. Removing the tank looks like a big job, especially given that it is not a real nuisance (yet).

The 8 inch funnel with The bronze screen filter works for me for adding fuel, seems everything gets into diesel.I also always pour the last part into a glass or clear plastic jar to check for water.. I started pulling the tank, then just rinsed it out.Over 12 bolts holding it and I was not thru. JY.
