This has probably been discussed before but here it goes.
One of my FEL hose that connects to the tractor is now leaking with an extremely tiny hole. It was not caused by rubbing as far as I can see. No physical damage. I have 2 questions.
Should I buy a replacement from JD at around 50$ or get a generic hose from the local hydraulic shop.
Also, should I go ahead and replace all 4 connecting hoses? or all hoses on the FEL? or this is a failure that is isolated and replacing only the failing hose is enough? I hate leaks. My tractor sleeps inside a nice garage...

My tractor is 20 years old with 1150 hours.
Thanks for your help! :tractor:   (My son wanted to add the smilies)

I would only replace the broken hose, If the others show wear or cracking then replace too . Hydraulic hoses are very durable and can last a long time.

I'll go by the local hydraulic shop tomorrow and check if it will be cheaper there than at John Deere. The specs I found for the quick coupler is 9/16-18 UNF, O-Ring Boss. Anyone knows if this type is more expensive than others?
I know very little on hydraulic things but I am willing to learn all I can.

That's a common fitting. Ask for a " -06 ORB " and they will think your are a pro!

And if you take the old one with you, it'll only cost you one trip.

You could do just one but they are all the same age and hours so do what you feel is right. the JD dealer can most likely make the hose or order it from deere. somtimes they are cheaper to get from deere .or if the local auto parts store has the right fittings have them make it . just comes down to time and money.

For some folks, convenience is top priority; for others it is cost.

The most convenient would be just ordering it from JD, but that will cost
about $60 each for the short hoses. JD dealers get parts from a
warehouse, however, so don't expect to walk in to one and find it in stock.

Or, you could have them make at a local shop, and that may cost a bit
less, but some are very expensive. I no longer have reliable/economical
shops around here and I live close to the 10th largest city in the US.

Note that you have 12 20yo hoses on your FEL, and BRIMSTONE is
correct....you are going to see more failures soon. All 12 from JD will
set you back about $1000.

I chose another path: buy standard pre-made hoses ($7 or 8 each) and
use adapters to fit. These hoses were higher quality than JD's, and you
can also get 1/4" hoses, instead of the larger OEM hoses.

Don't forget: your FEL uses restriction adapters on some of the hose
connections. Don't toss them out if you want to reuse them. I did not,
with no downside.

Thanks for all the input!! It is much appreciated.
There is a small hydraulic store on my way to work so I stopped by today. They could have replaced my hose in 5 minutes but I wanted to get the 4 hoses done and they did not have 8 fittings in stock. They will be ready tomorrow and a bit cheaper than JD and better quality. They sell only 2 wire hose and up which seems better than the JD one. I think the brand is Goodyear. Goodyearョ Engineered Products :: GR16

I will replace the cylinder hoses when they start leaking. I might check into generic fittings at that point. I read dfkrug's comment too late today to consider that option...

Thanks again
