- today I tried out the 3,000 lb camo remote controlled winch. I think those have been as low as $49 and are presently under $70. This darn thing is dangerous. A touch on the remote pulls in four inches of line. And its fast.

I don't see a way to inch it along. It's always 4" in or out for the briefest touch on the remote. Holding the remote button down runs continuous plus 4" more after you release the button. I'm working on a winch-powered lift to dump my 4x8 tilt-bed trailer, and 4" pull, minimum, is way more than I want while I try out different rigging combinations.

post 2 - I can't believe they still sell them...wonder how many fingers they have removed in 3 years:thumbdown:

I noticed the same thing with mine. Someone here - I think it was the guy that made the long boom off his FEL for lifting roof trusses - rewired his to take off the radio control and make it more controllable. Other than being a safely hazard, it is a nice little winch for $50.

I used the camo remote winch to make a lift for my dump trailer. I used it for the first time today. It works great.

This is real simple: aluminum channel for a mast and a HF 3" block (pulley) hooked to the top of the mast. The mast has a inch-deep notch at the bottom to stay on the trailer tongue. Power is a HF 650/1200 amp jump start battery.

This little winch is easily worth the $70 cost.

Oh - After this photo I added a two ft rope to the winches hook to pull out cable so my hands aren't near a pinch point. This is not a tool you want to get close to.

.... Engine Starter ITEM # 66783

10/2/55 Amp, 6/12 Volt Battery Charger/Engine Starter
I have a name-brand equivalent to that charger and I like it. The 55 amps spins my elderly Yanmar like crazy when it is feeling reluctant in cold weather. If you need that feature, go for it!

Also topping up the battery for a few minutes on the 10 amp setting warms the battery and prepares it to give its best in winter temperatures. I think two amps overnight would be a gentler way to recharge a discharged battery, however.

Not mentioned here - but I used the $3.99 float charger to get several more years use out of my Subaru's battery after I retired it to intermittent use in the tractor. I left the charger on continuous when the tractor wouldn't be used for a week or more. This greatly increased battery water consumption to where a 'maintenance-free' battery needed water maybe every 90 days, but it offset the increasing self-discharge of a several year old battery. A more sophisticated trickle charger might work better but I think the added cost is better spent on just buying a fresh battery sooner.

Tractor? I think the closest HF ever got to tractors was the towable backhoe.

I once started a thread on here inquiring about them. I was surprised that several owners really like them and use them for fairly difficult tasks.

Northern Tool puts their label on Jinma tractors. (Chinese). TaskMaster brand I think??? Could you be thinking of them instead?

....Check with Dargo- on the off chance one was returned for a refund:laughing:

Just got my order delivered the other day and am quite happy so far.

Bought 10, 6" c-clamps on sale for 4.99 each. On visual inspection, the casting and paint look better than some of the ones I found locally. Local price ranged from 7.99 to 10.99 each.

1/2 inch, variable speed drill on sale for 29.99. I bought it to go into an old craftsman table top drill press. Should do alright for the occasional uses I have for it. Most use will probably be with the blade sharpener for the mower deck.

Also got a "particle separator" That goes on a 5 gallon pail (as the lid). Marketed for a sawdust collection system to trap larger/heavier chips while letting the finer dust go to the main collector. I want to try this in-line with a commercial carpet extractor I have. The recovery tank holds just over a gallon- and even when I only clean the cars, I have to empty it a couple of times. I can also use it with the shop vac as well- so, for 7.99 I don't think I can go wrong.
