Ford 5000, JD 350B Dozer
Neighbor (more money than brains) stopped by to day to ask if I was intrested in his "old" '91(?) JD2555 4239 Turbo, 2100 hrs, 2WD it only has 24" rear tires, TSS trans, and he's lost the 3 point links, need paint, seat and some TLC. He had a leak in the radiator and pulled both the radiator and fuel tank off this spring. He ran over both with his new tractor. He asked if I wanted to buy it since I bought his 350B dozer last spring and got it running and use it all the time I'm at the farm. He wants $1000 for it, should I go for it, for a $1000 more likely $750 cash I could tow it away.

Thanks-

I assume you mean he ran over the radiator and fuel tank while these were removed from the tractor.

I look at used equipment and determine what it takes to get it up to par. The purchase price plus the repair parts and my time need to be considered.
This might be a good deal for you.

BTW, the neighbor may be trying to be very fair with you. I would be cautious of making comments about a neighbor on the Internet. Whatever you type will be around for a long time, think about it. Do a search for a 2555 and this thread will likely come up.

I am dead broke and I would find the money for that deal. Should be worth that in scrap. Used radator and fuel tank good to go.

I think it's a good deal too. Easily fixed, you have the skills, and you can never have enough running tractors hooked up to something and ready to go.

Buy it! I would jump on it even if only to resell after repairs.

Went to look at it more in depth this morning... Tank & radiator are gone, yes ran over while off the tractor. Also found out more info. 1992 model, the nephew of the guy was going to do the repairs for him. He removed the hydraulic pump off the front and it has vanished also nut the assembly is still there, the tank, cooler and the attachment/clutch on the crank pully. The kid had lost the key, and pull the ignition switch and that too is mia. I'm starting to think this might be a money pit.

BTW his motto is I might not have the brains to fix it, but I do have the cash to buy new...

Without seeing the tractor it is hard to know but everything you have mentioned so far can be easily fixed. What kind of condition is the tractor in? Tires, sheetmetal, transmission and engine? Pics?

Tractor is in good condition, needs a few items, seat is torn, cracked work light, etc. I started pricing things out, so far at about $2000 looking @epay and other sites. Tires are about 50%, sheetmetal is in good shape, a new coat of paint would make it nice. I can't say anything about the engine as the ignition switch is gone.

I would go for it at that rate.
