Looking for a good replacement battery for the B7400HSD model. Seems the Kubota dealers around my area are no longer carrying OEM batteries. The original battery lasted almost 10 years. Replaced it less than 13 months ago and the new one (not OEM) has now failed. It is not an electrical problem the replacement battery is just crap! I have a couple of questions regarding this model.

First question is with regards to the Cold Cranking Amperage requirements. The OEM battery tag was well worn and I could not read it for the CCA value. The manual recommends a minimum 390 CCA. The replacement was 425 CCA and always appeared to have starting issues. I have been reading other articles/posts elsewhere where they are all recommending 800+ CCA for a Kubota tractor. I'm in North Texas so cold isn't an issue. Has anyone had experiences with lower CCA's on these tractors? If so what have you found to be an acceptable CCA?

The next question is even finding a replacement battery. The local dealers are using Interstate batteries because the Interstate supply warehouse is nearby. Does anyone have particular good luck with a manufacturer and part number that potentially is widely available? It does not have to be Interstate and I have no real preferences of manufacturer.

Any information would be appreciated.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume it is the same battery as most B-series have been using for awhile, including the B7500. It is a group number 51R this is a readily available battery that some auto manufacturers also use. I have been using Napa batteries with no noticeable problems for the last several years. In fact I just bought one for a customer this morning. It is rated at 500 CCA. I'm pretty confident in saying you won't find this size battery in 800 CCA. I have never had any problem with them here in sunny California so I can't speak to their cold start capabilities, but remember that is a fairly small engine in that machine and shouldn't require a lot of power.

Brian

PS. I paid $79.99 for it, plus the core charge. The Napa part number is 5051R.

Brian,

Thank you very much!!:thumbsup: The Kubota dealers in our area are trying to push the Interstate NS60LS with 330 CCA. Grant it I don't use it much in the colder weather but Kubota even calls for 390 CCA minimum.

I did come across a reference to the 51R series at 500 CCA, depending on manufacturer. I called the local NAPA dealer a few minutes ago and they have them in stock. I'll be headed down tomorrow morning to pick one up. The 51R at NAPA is even a little less (same core charge) as the Kubota dealers offering. I don't go for cheap but was surprised at that one.

Thanks again for the information. After almost 10 years of not worrying (OEM lasted that long), then the junk replacement going bad just when I needed it the most, and the usual internet search resulting in garbage, it sure is nice getting the low down from another who is familiar with it.:thumbsup:
