Here are a few pictures of our spoils this morning. In about 4 hours we cut and bucked 2-3 cords, and hauled it 1/2 mile out of the woods using the Power Trac PT 1460. My Dolmar 7900 ran flawlessly, and my buddy did all the hauling. I ran a 24" Bar with 3/8 full chisel chain, and it was chewing through the wood without slowing down. In the first pic you can see one of my American Bulldogs surveying the situation.... Enjoy!!

Here is the new fan on the PT. It really lowers the hydraulic temp, and takes about 5 degrees off the motor temp.

Here is the relay I added to the circuit, so I didn't blow up the temp sensor:

Nice chainsaw there... I run its little brother, the 6400. One day I'll upgrade the piston and cylinder to make it a 7900, or maybe the Bailey's 84cc BB kit.

You should really think about getting the HD air filter kit, it makes a big difference in filtration and a slight improvement in power.

Right now the Dolmar is all stock. It really doesn't need any more power for what I do. However, maybe I will look into the HD filter. Very rarely do I get a trunk around here bigger than 24", so the bar is just right. I have a 5105 as well, and a Husqvarna 455. After running the 7900, the other two saws are like kid's toys.

The 5105 is a screamer, best 50cc saw made, except for maybe the Husky 346xp, depending on who you ask. I guess you have a decent Dolmar dealer near you? Their lack of dealer network really limits them. I had to buy mine on the online 'black market', as there aren't any dealers near me, save one where I refuse to spend a dime.

The dealer here is a good guy. I bought the 5105 from him. The 7900 I bought used on Ebay. The Husky 455 Rancher I bought new as well. The Husky is actually a great saw, it always runs, and never needs any adjusting. The 5105 has been a bit temperamental. You are right, though, it can really scream. I can't complain about the 7900, as it has been really solid.

Ahhh, a good day in the woods... sunshine, dog, tractor and chainsaw. Doesn't get much better than that!

I assume he marked the tree he wanted you to cut.:)

I see that the tree had the same problem my wooded area is having with some kind of blight eating the tree from the inside out. Thus, the hollow part of the log.

Nice dog! Thanks for the pics. Post a few of the dogs next time. We have Clumber Spaniels.

Nice Saw, Nice Dog......I had my Dog Jake, he's a Brittany with me and I was cutting a huge Pine tree that came down on my farm...I sure wish I had your saw today...My little Poulan with a 16 inch bar could not handle it when I got up to the wide part of the trunk..just started smoking....had chain oil but did not have the length or the power...I would not pay for me to buy a bigger saw...I just don't ever have to cut that much so it could pay for itself..I will have to find someone that wants some free wood..

Hey you can't look at it that way. Lots of people ride Harley motorcycles. Do the Harleys ever pay for themselves? To me, I would rather run my Dolmar 7900 than a Harley any day. And the saw costs only 3-4% of what the Harley costs..... Yeah I know I am weird, but I love buying and operating farm equipment. The rest of my family buys boats and fancy foreign cars, but I buy Power Tracs and chainsaws.

My guess is that if your saw chain is smoking, it needs to be sharpened or replaced. Also, make sure that your bar isn't bent. Don't apply too much pressure. The chain should be cutting with very light pressure.

Running that Dolmar and watching it cut through a large round in seconds, is priceless. What a rush!!
