I need a class B CDL and an class A non CDL

Is it recreational? If so, the feds don't care. Check for specific state laws.

Just upgrade to a CDL class A.

Many states, like PA, require a non commercial class A for combinations over 26k, including RV's.

WHAT CLASS OF DRIVER担 LICENSE DO YOU NEED?
In Pennsylvania, driver痴 licenses are issued specifically for the class and type of vehicle you operate. Therefore,
the class of driver痴 license you should have depends specifically upon the type of vehicle you operate. Generally
speaking, the majority of applicants for a Pennsylvania driver痴 license will be operators of regular passenger
vehicles, pick-up trucks or vans. This manual is designed to provide the information you need to get a
non-commercial Class C driver痴 license, which is the class that covers these types of vehicles.
CLASSES OF DRIVER担 LICENSES
CLASS A (minimum age 18): Required to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross weight rating of
26,001 pounds or more, where the vehicle(s) being towed is/are in excess of 10,000 pounds. Example:
Recreational Vehicle, when the towing vehicle is rated at 11,000 pounds and the vehicle towed is rated at 15,500
pounds (total combination weight of 26,500 pounds).

Can't do that because you need the commercial equipment to take the CDL on the road test.

I if I get time I will call DMV tomorrow to see what they say.

I was asking around at work tonight and no one that I know of has a noncommercial class A or B

It isn't that hard. Use one of your works trucks with a 10k plus trailer or your camper, just tell them it is for commercial use. I just used my pick up with a 20k GN trialer.

Or just run illegal like everyone else in PA.

That's a new one to me..Most of the class A people I know just buy them and drive them..In PA.

I don't find that hard to believe.

I just read about someone that had to "inform" the people at the DMV that there was such a license class.

And extra oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, spare filters, ps fluid. All your tools and on and on...
The point of the spare bulbs/lamps is that if you have one out DOT can hit you with an out of service order - which means you park it where it sits until it's fixed. Or have it towed.

$50 bucks worth of bulbs is cheap insurance.

You won't need a log book but you will need either a post or pre trip inspection book.

US Federal regulations require a CMV driver to visually pre-trip his equipment and re-check it each time the CMV stops and at the end of the trip/day. The driver is required to report, in writing at the end of the day of any defect that affects the safe operation of the CMV.

The next day the driver needs to have a copy of the previous days inspection. Any defects reported need to be signed off by a mechanic that it was repaired -or- did not require a repair...

Canadian regulations require a written pre and post trip inspection. I was working for the US division of a Canadian Carrier who shipped us crates of logbooks and inspection books printed in Canada. They were much larger than the standard 1/2 page size US books and were bi-lingual. The drivers hated them and were only completing the post trip.

Checking w/ a local DOT person at a seminar I was told since we were using these books we had to use them in their 'intended form and manor' which almost caused a revolt among the US drivers until we ditched them and got some US post trip books.
