Fall colors this year not as

pretty as the last few in my area. We had an exceptionally long growing season in not having any frosts until late september and the colors seem to reflect that. I'm no expert but doesn't frost have something to do with the leaves turning at some point? The first four are from this year (today actually) and the last two are from two years ago in late September.

Yep I agree, not that great this year, mostly because of that long stretch with no precipation !

Same here! Rainy Spring, then long, hot dry spell makes for less Fall color.

here in N.E. GA...we are still a week or two away from the peak...but the Maples (vibrant coral) and the Hickory's (glowing golden yellow) are as good as they get...still a lot of green in the woods...they may be falling too fast to be an exceptional year though...

planning a trip to Cataloochee (S.E. Smokies) to see the Elk next week...they should be in full rut and putting on a show...

Colors are just starting to come out here in the Boston area. Not bad really. We've had years that are a lot less colorful than this one.

Here in East Texas, the color is starting, but nothing too exciting yet. I've been keeping an eye on the trees and I'm hoping that it will get better, but in the meantime, I'm trying to get a few nice pics of what I do have.

We had an especially vibrant fall here, but the leaves are turning quickly to brown. Not holding their color long, it seems. We also had a very wet spring, but a very long, dry summer and fall.

In NE Alabama it's been fairly dry for the last couple of months. Sometimes that creates conditions for spectacular fall colors. The leaves will peak in a few weeks.

This one (showing many of the same trees but from a slightly different perspective) was taken one week earlier (10/10):

This photo from almost the same perspective was taken one year ago (10/18/09). The colors were farther along.

Its just because its so dusty you can't see the colors here. Plus we haven't even been close to a frost yet.
