Tractor vs. Chainsaw...you guess

   / Tractor vs. Chainsaw...you guess #11
I purchased a Stihl 026 12 years ago( I was logging then). They said......."you can't cut your trees with that small a saw". I said .......okay, whatever you say.
30 inch trees..........no problem.......just took a few seconds longer that a 046 would have.
Now I have a great 'firewood saw'......cuts fast and clean, and is light enough to throw around all day.:)

EDIT: If ya'all want, I can take pictures of the cherry tree I'm going to cut down with the 026, as soon as the sap goes down.

Pictures are always good.

speaking of reliable.. a couple years ago I bought a poulan pro wood shark? 18" bar I think.

that has turned out to be a great saw. trees, fence posts.. etc.

I left gas in it all year from winter and figured it would be a bear to start.. 6 pushes of the primer and 2 tugs and she was ready to eat wood...

I know there is always cheaper stuff on the internet, but I am sooooo tired of the leaf Blowers and other equipment that works for one season and is a serious maintenance item, years to follow.
For Gas Grills .... I bought the Char Broill..... $129 and other cheap brands....
JUNK. (Then bought the Weber... year after Year,,,Cooks and does what it is supposed to do)!
I buy Stihl Equipment.. My Wood boss costs like thunder, but it runs and runs!!! The other stuff are boat anchors!....
(My situation is : I need minmum maintenance, reliable equipment. If I had the time to Play, repair the cheap stuff, I'd buy it)!
btw, as my friend from Taiwan said recently:
"Cheap... No Good... Good, No Cheap"

I hope your tractor and tires are ok?

Who me? Oh yea, my L4200 could crush 5 of those saws and not even lose it's 1/4 inching valve setting...:)

At forestryforum.com some of those guys praise poulan, others hate it. Im in the hate it crowd. My father in law has a poulan, it takes a ton of pulls to get it sarted when cold, my stihl is like 6 at the most if its been off for months.

odd. I use plain 87 octane gas, and tsc generic mixing oil. I tend to mix a lil on the heavy side, and do splash in some stabil.. probably not enough.. but some.

I don't think I've ever had to pull more than 2x to start her except for the very first time I started her when I got home from the store... just push the primer bulb about 6x and then a pull or 2 and she's good. even after months of storage... ( knock on wood anyway) :)

Stihl says to use at least 89 in the manuals for the saws I have. Not sure about other manufacturers, but they claim the occurence of spark nock is too much of a possibility and not as obvious as in a car.
