I am going to do my 50hr service this week. Manual says to change engine oil and filter and hydraculic filter.
I plan on using rotella 15w-40 T.. I live in West TN and tractor will not be used much in the winter- but kept in heated garage. So I beleive that 15w-40 will be fine. When replacing the hyd filter I am reading I will lose some fluid- so I guess that UDT is what is in it now so top off with Kubota UDT..how much do I need to buy a qt?

1. 15w-40 ok?
2. Top off Hydraulic with UDT?
3. How much UDT do I need to buy?

Don't forget to drain both sides of the engine oil pan. Hint, hint.

Your tractor should have SUDT in it, confirm with dealer. At my 50 hour service I replaced all filters. I also changed trans/hyd fluid and front axle fluid, used SUDT. My preference for engine oil is Mobil 1 5w-40. If you are a Shell guy, they also make a Rotella 5w-40.

To answer your questions:

1) Yes, as long as it meets your minimum starting ambient requirements. Would not for me in central Indiana.
2) I don't think so, should be SUDT. Confirm with dealer.
3) I don't know since I just drained all my fluid.

Is SUDT used in DT and GST tractors or is it only used in HST tractors?

At 200 hrs. I changed the hydraulic filter on my 3240 without losing a drop of UDT.
I just parked the tractor sideways on a slope, spun the old one off and the new one on.
Not a drop lost then and didn't have to change/add fluid till 400 (few days ago).

FYI, On my first filter change, one of the filters, can not remember if it was hst or hydraulic, I could not get off with a filter strap. Worked and cussed on it for 5 long minutes. I then noticed at the metal base of the filter were machined notches in it. Put a big strong screw driver in the notches and use a hammer to loosen. Philip.

If you have an HST transmission, your tractor may have both hydraulic and HST filters, and they are not identical. Get them switched and you will pump the entire hydraulic reservior out on the ground in about 30 seconds.

I just did my 2920 this past week. Lost less than 1 qt. of hydraulic oil. I had bought 2 qts. at the dealer not knowing how that would go. The advice about not getting the 2 filters confused is good...it took me a few minutes studying the manual (which doesn't really have very good illustrations) to figure it out. My filters weren't all that hard to remove, but I had bought the filter pliers someone here suggested and they really work great, even though I cheaped out and got the HF version.
