Well, I attempted to install the rear remotes this afternoon. Instructions said 1 hour. I started at 10am and just wrapped up at 4pm. Still not finished.

Instructions were lousy and I was missing one of the black o-rings.

The 2 circular rods you install in the first step, one was warped a little and they were difficult to thread. I used the nylon nuts to thread them down, and then backed the nuts off. The form fitting rods which attach to the controllers and go into the back... Well the outside one (c or d)was off by 1/2 inch. I ended up taking the outside controller off and then threading in on there. Then screwing back on the nut. That caused one of the first to installed rods to back itself out.... arrrg

I had a slightly smaller o ring so I used that on c or d's rod. Hope it works.

Last problem was the rear connectors. I can't get them tight enough. Fluid leaks out when I move the knobs.

I ended up with 4 black washer things the instructions don't mention. I put them behind the rear couplers since they were leaking a little but I still can't tighten them enough. Probably 1/4 to 1/2" if you tighten them all the way to the rear mounting bracket.

If all I need for it to work is tighten the couplers, I figure I can find a way to get that done. I'll call the dealership tomorrow and ask how they tighten them, if they use a special wrench or do they use some sort of tape on the threads like I use in my air hose couplings.

I should have had them come pickup the tractor as it would have been simpler. Just not sure the cost since I'm about 30 miles away. Live and learn.

I believe you could use some tape on the threads, should help.

I can't believe the instructions to be lousy. I installed the rear remotes on my CT230. As you mentioned, the instructions say 1 hr. I took about double that but then again...I've nevered played with hydraulics before. I am by no means a super tech guy but I have done some technical stuff with some reading and research.

I thought the instructions were well written and clear diagrams. No parts left over at the end. The only thing I did wrong was a pinched o-ring when I started to tighten stuff down. A quick trip to Western Bearing for a $0.34 o-ring fixed that right away. The pinch was my fault. No hydraulic leaks at the back end but I did use a little teflon tape. Tape won't hurt anything unless you get sloppy and use it too close to the end of the threads. Then you may have floater pieces of tape in your system.

I have teflon tape so I'll try that next. How tight did you put on the couplers? Is there space between the end and the bracket? I have about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. (From memory)
Also, how did you tighten them? A normal wrench? It looks to be about 1 1/4" then again its metric so do you know which size?

On the instructions:
The 2nd item in the instructions say install those rods. Both ends have threads, one side shorter than the other and one side longer with rounded ends. Doesn't say which one goes in and which one goes outside.

Another part of the instructions doesn't mention installing the bolts in the rods which send the fluid out the back but you can easily see it should be done between 2 steps.

I was just frustrated after a long day. But it was a beautiful day to be working on the tractor so I can't be mad at that. :)

Couplers are tight enough to stop leaks but not tight enough the strip or crack them.

I tightened mine with a wrench. If it is metric, do NOT use an SAE wrench on it. Metric bolts/nuts = metric wrenches.

I think you have terminlogy wrong. The so called 'rods' are called studs. You can tell which end to insert by looking at housing you are adding and see if the studs will protrude through. Most likely, short end in the tractor side.

Not sure what you are asking about 'bolts in rods...fluid out back'.

The spare washers you had left over might be for the banjo bolts. I can't remember off the top of my head if they had a gasket/washer under them.

make sure that you start 2 threads back from the end, to avoid the risk of getting tape into the pipe, which can clog your hydraulic system...
