Heck, you made it pretty far then. Carolina is a good ways from here. Or did you pick it up here, and were taking it back home? ;)

Picking it up. Going uphill was bad enough, but going downhill was pure "He!!." :)

No problem with a legal wide load...I wasn't clear really but that was my point..he was begging for a ticket.

Here in SC where I saw him he needed a wide load sign, flags on the corners, and he had to be off the road 30 mins before sundown.... he didn't meet any of those, and I bet he didn't have a clue either:confused2:
As for comfortable--I didn't mention when I first saw him he was doing 75 in a 60 weaving lanes, so either very comfortable or......

Yea, I never speed and have all the stuff needed. He is begging for a ticket, like you said.

You probably won't believe it, but I'm going to post it anyway. About a year-and-a-half ago, I'm driving home from work. A nice, long country drive. Kind of hilly and narrow shoulders. Typical country road.

About half-way home I get behind some folks pulling a mobile home. Not all that dramatic, typically.

But pulling this house are four cars and trucks all chained together in a line...a late 80's or early 90's model Ford F150, a 90's model Ford Taurus, a Chevy Cavalier, and some car I wasn't quite sure what it might have been under all the bondo and multiple paint colors, but looked to be similar to an early 2000's Ford Fiesta.

I have no idea how far they had made it by the time I caught up to them, but about a mile-and-a-half after I got behind them the Taurus starts billowing smoke while they're trying to get up a hill, and the whole procession comes to a halt.

Now that is funny. I have pulled a MH with my 06 F-350 and while they are not terribly heavy, about 14,000#, they sure are big. I only went 3.5 miles and we did it with the help of about 20 volunteers. It was a church donation. We did it on a Sunday morning and it was all back roads at about 35 mph.

What really amazes me about your story is the F-150 had the guts to handle the tongue weight. I am guessing they were in a move or loose it situation. They probably had all the furniture and possessions in it and the weight could have been in the 25,000# range or more.

Chris,

You are the towing guru. Any idea about how the folks in KY managed going downhill?

Miller Transfer - Trailers

One of these units was on the road while I was traveling in NC about a week ago. Pilot vehicles front and rear, signs, warning lights, and on curves took both lanes or the pulloff lane to get thru. And it was the baby unit. :D

Saw this on the road yesterday- no license plate and 3ea 11' Mules crossways on a gooseneck trailer, pulled by a pickup, no wide load signs or anything.
Sorry for the lousy cell phone pic, wanted to get one of the slack jawed driver as I passed but couldn't...

Maybe he is farm exempt or something.

Thats the thing we see here Don. Can not wait, they are building a manufacturing facility just down the road from me making wind mills. Its between my home and work. They are also opening a locomotive plant just down the road also. I imagine most of the locomotive stuff will be transported on rails but either way its going to cause traffic.

I guess thats the price you have to pay to have jobs in our area.

I would not be surprised if they had all their furniture, a few farm animals, and half-a-dozen people in the thing.

As for the F 150, it had certainly seen better days. I'd be surprised if it was "firing on all cylinders", so-to-speak. For that matter, I doubt the drivers were operating an all cylinders, either. :D

I think they should make a tv show with redneck truckers, there is alot more drama on rural roads with people that move mobile homes than the oversize stuff on Ice roads.
