Haha, you got me there. If a machine's maximum reach happens to correspond to its maximum lift height, then yes, that's where the tipping load is measured. My bad on that one...
You are right about the max reach part. I just confused it with the max height seeing that it is the same on the Deere.
So do you think it is safe to lift more than ROC?

WOW!!! You guys are amazing. i have just spent the past 15 minutes reading this thread and I have learned soooooooo much.:thumbsup: When people call to order ss attachments, they always ask me "how much can it carry?" or "what's the lift capacity?". It is hard to get them to understand that it is different for every machine. The grapple buckets have been the biggest headache.

An S300 is rated to lift 5848 lb to max height, tip limited (the hydraulics didn't crap out, the machine fell flat on it's face!). The point here is that the ROCs are calculated in such a manner that minimizes the liability of the company. Experience rules over all, as we know, but to answer the initial question of the S185 lift capacity...in Bobcat tests the max lift for a 185 is 3841 lbs at max height, hydraulic limited. Because of this, with a smooth lift and no travel an S185 CAN lift 3841 lbs without tipping.
As a side note the tests were completed with a particular set of options, the most notable affecting the capacity being: Deluxe Cab, European Tailgate, and Window Enclosure.

Just a FYI I went and drove a new Bobcat S650 M series what a sweet machine. I was looking at some slightly used S250's which are nice also. So now I just need to get some hard prices on them and decide.
Anyone use a snow pusher on one of these type units? If so 8' 9' 10'???

Ive used a 10 footer on a S300 worked fine just depends on the snow. You could always add what they call wolf paws for snow tires on your machine and it would improve greatly. I would also suggest a 2 speed for snow removal.

Funny, my Takeuchi TL150 states right in the owners manual that the "Rated Operating Load at 50% of Tipping Load", not 35% tipping load. Tipping load is over 7000 pounds and I've picked up and moved around 7000 pounds with my 4n1 bucket hundreds of times. I just had a tree taken down and the stump section was too much for the crane to pick up and was showing about 7400 pounds on the crane. I used the bucked to "bite" one of the 12" or so stubs on it where limbs were cut off and carried it off no problem. Sure, I was really light in the back end and I didn't lift it but maybe 6" off the ground, but it did the job no problem.
