I am about to buy a 2520, and I have not been able to find a manufactures plate identifying were it was built. John Deere does not seem to be very forthcoming with this information.

On the 2320 I have here in my shop, and on my 4110 the nameplate is on the frame, front right just over the tire and they both clearly state Yanmar, made in Japan. I am sure the 2520 has the plate in the same place.

First we have to look at the defination of built. Build and assembly have several meanings. If all the parts are machined in India, computer controls from Japan, hydraulics in China, tires from south America and sub assemblies placed on the assembly table in Georgia...... doesn't it make it a world built machine ?
My concern is the past track record and parts availability. The name plate of course is a banner of pride in some cases where advertising outlasts the durability.

We've gone down this road more than once here. The number of things made completely in any specific country are minute, to say the least.
I'll live with a machine assembled for the most part here like the 3000 /4000 series. At least American workers are making a living.
NOTHING with any form of electronics on it is made completely in any country, it's no longer possible. Circuit boards come for one place and chips another. It's just the way of the world these days.
I have these great speakers, Dynaudio, that I use to test my new amplifier designs. They have 3 Utube videos on the company and they make their own speakers, meticulously. That's about as close as you get to it.
Some industries like furniture can do more locally if the wood is their like NC but tractors or cars, forget it. I like that you can get certain vette engines put together by one guy who takes pride in his work but unless the world closes up like a clam and shipping stops things won't change.

Another sorry Liberal, this time from Canada, playing an unfounded race card. Tired of it!

Now, don't go assuming he is a liberal just from a single comment. For all we know he could be a conservative with deep guilt over his own racist thoughts trying to overcompensate. Many people I know are hypersensitive and see their own shortcomings in everyone around them. I think it is called Projection, and the worse it is the more they attack.

I think it is enough to throw a bit of light and let them see their own folly, but not rub noses and make the guilt level rise.

Hi,

My 2008/9? JD 2305 TLB (tractor/loader/backhoe) final assembly was completed at John Deere's Augusta, Georgia, USA plant on 09/03/2008.

The reason that I know that is that while the tractor was still at the dealer's, I opened up my tractor manuals round, plastic protective case, and saw that the manuals were in a sealed plastic bag. Over the manuals and the plastic bag that contained them, was a cover sheet of paper with some information on it. Part of that information was the tractor's final build/assembly date, and that was 09/03/2008...at Augusta, GA USA.

When I got back to my truck, I wrote that date down... I'm glad that I did, because when the tractor was delivered a few days later, that information sheet was nowhere to be found. A quick phone call to the dealer about that missing information sheet proved to be futile... no one seemed to know anything about it or had any idea of what might have happened to it.

I then sent an e-mail inquiry to John Deere's customer service, in a attempt to get copy of that information sheet. This was their reply:

"Please contact your local John Deere Dealer to see if they still have the sheet and can provide you a copy. The sheet you mentioned, I believe, is the standard pre-delivery inspection sheet used by the dealer to check in the tractor when delivered to the dealership. A copy is not normally given to the purchaser. Information regarding your unit is noted on the product identification tag and in the Operator's Manual."

The tractor's engine is a Japanese-built 24 HP Yanmar, and both the CX-200 FEL and the 260 back hoe were manufactured in Canada. That's according to the stickers that were on those attachments.

The last time I researched it (back in 2009), i read (on the Internet) that John Deere's line of small lawn and garden tractors (like they sell The Home Depot) were being built in India.

Regards, Deerelirious

Another sorry Conservative...playing the "its an unfounded race card"...card

I am a independent conservative that does not necessarily see a conspiracy behind any comment with which I may disagree.

Perhaps it would be better if politics were "saved" for Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck Facebook pages...Tom R...Radical Centrist
