Tractor
John Deere 755 subcompact
I have a 755 with a # 7 backhoe. The cylinders that swing boom left and right leak. The front of the cylinders, (towards the tractor) have the supply lines connected, the distal end (away from tractor) has what appears to be a piece of old rubber hose cut off and this is where they leak when operated. My question is: What should the distal end be connected to? Each other? or just capped off?

Thanks

Welcome to TBN:D

Are you a dentist? The only time I here the term "distal" is at the dentist!

Anyway, K7 is 100% correct. See the diagram from JDParts below. I think the hose you are reffering to is #16.

Oh, and I asked a Moderator to more your post to the regular JD forum.

Aren't those single acting cylinders ? Is there supposed to be fluid in the back end ?

Yes, they are SA cylinders. Some leaking may be expected since the cylinders are older, but if they still have the power to operate the swing then rebuilding them is a waste of money.

I'm not a dentist, but do work in the medical field, sorry. Thanks for the diagram, I have been looking for resources like this. The backhoe is in very good shape except for the severed, (I mean cut) hydro line. I have many projects lined up for the 755 and plan to build a cab this winter. I'm new to the forum and my posting has been moved twice already. Not sure where it should be, but at least I know someone is reading it if they move it.

The JD parts system is free, all you have to do is register and "think like a parts guy" to use it. It is the same basic system the dealers use at the parts counter. There is a quick tutorial linked in my signature to help if you need it.
