Rotary Cutter Winter implement storage

Kebo had the right idea, if you have the room............
Stand it on end in the building, via a hoist(which can be a simple 'deer hoist'). That's what I'm doing with the deck on my Massey.

Except a rake which my father confiscated and a rear scoop I keep everything inside.

If the deck is all you have to store I vote for hoisting it up in a corner. It won't take much room and will help keep it in decent shape for a long time.

If you go that way make sure the vent on the gear box is up or it will probably drip most of the winter.

I wish there was some kind of can of clear spray you could hit the implements with that had to stay outside to slow the rusting process down. Sort of a clear coat that lasted through winter.

I'm just finishing the board & bat siding on my small barn. My 4800 & my M-7040 and maybe 2 implements will fit in there.

Looks like my MX-8 is going to spend the winter outside. Not liking that one bit. :(

Ain't no room to store my big beast LB-115 inside, although it will get a lot of use in removing snow piles.

I just hate leaving equipment outside.

When I was a kid my dad was an implement dealer (50's). Oftentimes we coated implements with an "implement varnish"......which was a clear coat spray-on coating to prevent rust. If I remember right it was cheap and we coated lots of balers and combines with this material. I have not seen it used in a long time....but it should be used more often. Not sure on price today. Made machines look nice to sell 'em.

I'm with you. This year I am giving fluid film a shot. Hope it works :confused3:

This year everything will be under cover because all the hay sold early. I am very lucky to have a barn 68 by 90, leanto 14 by 120, and another small barn 20 by 32. Even the trucks and trailers will be under roof.

Buy a Aerosol can of Amsoil Metal Protector. It dries clear, and leaves a rust prohibiting film behind. My dads tools always rusted in his damp garage, since he used this spray, the rust has ended.

Everything parked under the big oak tree next to the tractors. Luckly we dont get the snow down here like yall (up north) do. Last year we got 6 inches and everyone freaked out. lol

Might want to rethink that. It will be very oily and attract a lot of dust, dirt, grit.

I just may try that.

The snow is really not the biggest problems, its the dew thats the worst. The dew gets everything soaking wet every night, and then in the cooler months it never dries off all day, so thats RUSTING all day, and all night long!

The winter months are the least harmful, because all the moisture is frozen into snow or frost/ice, so nothing really rusts that bad.

A simple roof to cut the dew, and keep rain off would be a huge advantage over letting them self-destruct outside.

Southern States are likely different.
