I've seen them too. Scary stuff, but it isn't just farmers and truckers. You can almost count on a ladder a day falling onto the interstate somewhere around Nashville.

I once saw two pickups/goosenecks/skidsteers parked at a Hardees while the drivers had lunch. Neither skid steer had any tie downs whatsoever, just parked on their trailers.
I know gravity has been around awhile but I don't trust it that much

How about when you come up on a couch cushion laying in the middle of the road. Imagine moving Clampett style and getting to your destination and are missing one couch cushion?
What do you do with a couch with one missing cushion?
Same goes for the one dresser drawer that slid out and fell into the road.
Even if the "movers" realize something fell off by the time they get back to it 50 cars have already run over and destroyed it...Not like you are ever gonna find a replacement.

On my recient drive into civilization this last week, I really thought I could build a house with what was seen on the roadside.
I saw a couple lengths of insulated 6 '' heater pipe, then next I saw wat looked to be a few 2x4 in the grass, In the middle of the road with people swerving was a 'moving blanket' to cushion furniture.I'm sure there are other thugs as well. but what got my attention was the "mans Dodge' truck with roof racks and four mattresses on the top strapped in the middle only. So two of the fronts were bent right back in the wind.(65 mph) And I go the ugly look as he zipped around me to go faster.One strap..thats it.LOL
Always is interesting trips. The last time I got out into the big world I was behind a welders truck,He had about 15 or so feet of stinger line tagging behind him.I pushed the old Metro to a whopping 65 mph and come up along side him and tooted the horn. He liked and gave me the finger.:thumb sup:
I kept pointing and finally he gestured something different and pulled over.

They made those laws so you can't swap trailer houses while your neighbor's out at church.

I will admit that if I had a camera guy with me watching some of the stuff we have done I may have done it a little differant or there may have been a dramtic pause as the narirator explained how unusual this was but it would have made some for some good T.V.

The no moves on Weekend in IL is so that if you hit a utility the company will be open and able to fix what you messed up. Also in IL the DOT puts a bigger concern on pleasure drivers than comuters,IE they try to keep the construction off the roads on weekends and holiday's as they would hate for you to be late for the Illini game or not make it to grandma's on time.

Don't even get me started about the redneck furniture movers. Ya know, big four door car with mattress on the roof, driver and passengers arms out the window holding it down. Or, guy in back of pick-up truck holding a frig or dresser.

Around here you see that everyday. What causes me to look is when the steel scrap guys go by. There is a van around that they fill with scrap and I have seen a few fridges and stoves strapped on top. It looks like it works but it seems like it would be a little top heavy. Trucks will also be stacked to easily twice the hight of the truck and sometimes it looks like it might be a problem going under some of the low railroad bridges around here.
It gets crazy around here.:laughing::laughing:

Hey! That's exactly how I came to have a very nice fiberglass extension ladder. Found it on the freeway, and it still had a little tag wiring two rungs together and all the other tags still on it, so I know it had never been used. It was brand new with almost all the shiny still on it, except for the little bit of pavement rash from when it landed on the pavement!
