Hi everyone. We have a Kipor generator that we purchased over a year ago (would never have bought it had I done more research). We have not used it much, mainly for powertools for work on the garage however it is intended for failover when power goes out. The electricians hooked us up when we got it so no worries there. What I have found recently is that the smell coming from it is different, not sure how to describe but it's not the typical diesel smell. I filled it up with new diesel, checked the oil which is full so I am not sure what is wrong. I have only run it for a few minutes recently because of the smell and then quickly shut it down because it smells more like burning diesel. Also there is a lot more smoke coming from it than ever before and it does not go away even after a couple minutes of running. Any ideas?

Tks.

exactly where is the smoke coming from? exhaust? on the pipe? Sometimes a brand new unit, there is lightweight oil smeared on certain parts to prevent rust and running the gen is burning it off. I would take the cover off and start it up and watch for unusual smoke locations.

You got mice nesting in it somewhere? Mabey check the air intake. Burning diesel with not enough air would give you smoke.

The smoke is coming from the exhaust. It's been used enough over the past year that whatever 'new' smell it had is long gone. It was fine a few weeks back and then I tried it last weekend, and the smell and smoke was apparent. I tried it again this Friday and it's still doing it. There have been mice at it so possibly the air intake is blocked. I'll look at this as a possibility.

Tks!
