You definitely want an oil formulated for a diesel engine. Rotella is favored by many here.

I use Mobil 1 0w30. It's lightly diesel rated. I change it once/yr and generally only put 70-100 hours on it.
There are two diesel oils at 5w30 that are rated for long drains (e.g. 10k miles in cars and trucks). These are Castrol SLX and Mobil 1 ESP. Both are 5w30.
Almost all other diesel rated oils are 5w40 to 15w40. I would not use 15w40 because the oil won't get to the valve train for a few seconds at startup; whereas, a 5wxx or 0wxx will get there almost instantaneously, particularly the 0wxx.

i've seen a book on the 2425 that said 15w40 crankcase, and sae 30 injector pump, and aw32 hydro.. etc.. 80/9- trans/rear

sure since most diesel (trucks; rigs hauling food etc) are running 24/7 too
! Maybe in FL a 15w-40 will work but up north it is not the top pick....It will work with allkinds of external heating...Aka, there are better oil weights to use.
I do not but my faith in engineers since they do NOT make the product. It is the marketing and business end (aka bean couters)..

Times are changing with todays quality HDEO's a 15w40 is no longer the ONLY choice out there many times a manufacture I've seen depending on climate will spec anything from a 15w40 to a 10w30,30w,10w!! go by what the engine manufacture recommends is a good place to start.
just make sure it carys the currant CJ4 or CI4 HDEO spec and you cant go wrong your protected well.
