I find this disturbing.

What's your thoughts.

I agree with Duffster - a very dangerous piece of legislation. See the movie, 'Food Inc.' and see where the farming/food industry is headed. Very worrying.

It is clear that the average American is much farther removed from the food supply than a generation or two. People here seem to understand that the goods coming from China are not of the same quality as what you use to be able to buy in the US, but I don't see the same concern for the food. When someone talks about the price of eggs and milk, I never hear them talk about the quality of it. The food item at the grocery store today is often far from that item 30-50 years ago.
I'm slowly educating my grandfather in his 90s. He was/is a farmer and had no clue on what is done to food. How many people thick of the cheap syrup products in the store as maple syrup? How many people believe when they buy "pure honey" from the grocery store, they are getting something that comes solely from bees in nature? Yes, this bill is just for big agriculture.

One of the items raised in the movie Food Inc. was that the industry is now injecting meat with ammonia to kill e-coli. The movie stated that the bacteria is so pervasive in the beef industry that a number of deaths resulted because of it. Here is a year old article from the New York Times that explains.

Note the article states that ammonia injecting has become a mainstay in America's hamburgers.

Who in their right mind would think injecting meat with ammonia is somehow acceptable practice and how on earth did legislation approving this kind of abuse get passed?

From report I recently heard the Senate version needs to go back to the House of Rep for final approval. A couple of the main parts of the bill - FDA can require recall of tainted food - prior to this law can only recommend. Also requires inspection of imported and domestic foods - don't know details but assume higher levels of scrutiny. Also I believe I heard that this is the first revision of these standards in 70 years.
