I drained the tank on my B-414 gasser last month and found a complete wooden paint stirrer. Tried for over an hour to get it out without breaking it. Gave up and used a shop vac to pick up the pieces. The printing on the stick was like new...and I've owned the tractor 10 years so it's been in there longer than that!
I think you were lucky. I've seen a vacuum cleaner get blown apart when the gas vapours hit the sparks the brushes in the electric motor make, and no, I wasn't using it. It was the brother of a friend.

Thanks for pointing that out Mace. I did drain the tank the day before and ran air in the tank overnight due to some welding work. I should have pointed that out. Thanks.

In an old International Harvester tractor that my uncle bought I found a tampon while looking down the empty gas tank for signs of rusting.

I thought. What the ****? A tampon? What in the world for? And how the **** did it get down there I wondered and I still wonder?

I was just filling up my L3410 when the plastic extension hose from the 5 gallon can slipped of and went into the tank.
I looked through the fill hole and was unable to locate it. My questions for all of you wise individuals are
1. Is it ok to go ahead and run the tractor for a few jobs I have around the farm today?
2. will this eventually float to the top?
3.will it ultimately ( If I don't get it out soon) deteriorate and foul up my filter or injectors?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated
By now I figure you either ran it like that or did some fishing. I don't think it will hurt it to run it and if fishing is futile then I would run it down to near empty. Shallow water after all leaves fish high and dry....

If your plastic tube was dirty, you might consider running a tank or two through then changing out the filters.

FWIW, if you happen to frequent truck stops for a fill up every day or so, it is not all that unusual to see a busted nozzle. Some forgetful (I am being nice) trucker forgot to hang up one of the pumps.

Worse than that is when you are minding your own business while tending to your own affairs and someone next to you pulls out and breaks the pump nozzle. Even shutoff, those hoses can whip out plenty of diesel.

Well that could have been the reason it was there. That would explain why it was in there. That's probably what the previous owner put it there for. I could picture that working to absorb the moisture.

The tractor was in storage with an empty tank for quite some time.

Yeah that had to be the reason it was in there.

Going off topic here but I snapped this pic on I-85 near Greenville SC a few months back-

Ha, the exact same thing happend to me after owning my L3010 for about 3 days. I took a Flexible Claw Pick Up Tool and tried to get out the hose. I quickly learned that I was going to need to take the fuel pickup out of the tank. This made it a lot easier to get the hose out, so that is my advice.
