Yes thats it. I got to ride the brakes when it was moved from one spot to a another on the flight deck. Sure got my a** ate out and also got my buddy in trouble.

Yep...Vigilante...I didn't think they had squared off intakes. But I was wrong (see attached picture)
As far as the "big plane...Russian Bear? Has the pusher props, IIRC.

Three cruises to Yankee Station on the Hancock.. VF211 Checkmates. We had 3 Mig kills in VN and flew the "Last of the Gunfighters" the F-8 Crusader. AQF2, Worked the Flite deck as a plane captain and in the Shop.

Never made the appointment to Annapolis, and didn't want to drive choppers, so my dream of piloting kinda died.... Weren't a lot of choices otherwise for somebody who couldn't stand college in the mid-to-late 60s.... but I was good at languages, so went that route instead. ("ASA Lives!":thumbsup
Still look up in the air every time I hear an airplane, though!:laughing:

Retired AT1 flight deck troubleshooter/final checker here 1977-1998 3 cruises in VA 176 4 cruises in VA 34 3 years instructor in VA 42 A6's gone final two cruises in VAW 123 (e2c Hawkeyes) carriers deployed on America, Indy, Ike, Kenedy, and Washington.Cant hear and bad knees but I loved it Randy

My only time on a carrier has been Boy Scout overnites to the USS Hornet. Awesome programs by the way. During aviation merit badge my son got to preflight an F-18.
I got to meet one of the docents a couple times. I was introduced by another docent from the Palm Springs Air Museum. Julie, from Palm Springs, flew F4U's in WWII and Korea, and then Panthers. Dale was hisshipmate in Korea, and flew F4U's and F9F Panthers.
This is an interesting video Dale put together from his time on a couple carriers during the war in Korea. Pre angle deck conversion...Note one takeoff from CV-12 USS Hornet when the deck elevator is lowerered And, Julie, from Palm springs, makes a not so good, albeit successful, F4U landing on CV-12.

My father in law served on the USS Forrestal. He served right after it was retrofitted from all the damage it took.
