RTV 500 Initial thoughts: Demo from dealer

Thanks for the replies guys. Right now the biggest appeal to me is its size. Very manueverable in the woods. Thats what I need/want. Would I want more power from a 900? sure, but it may be to big. I would like to see if it will cross my creek but its muddy and based on its performance so far, I don't think it will make it. I don't have time to dig it out this afternoon. I guess Monday I'll talk price with my dealer and go from there.

True But the little B may be going away on a trade in for the RTV.

Another question: When the 500 is first started, within about 2-3 seconds the motor will "lope" once sounding like its about to shut off but then corrects itself. Does everyone's do this, is it part of the "self check" system?

The size is why I popped on it over the 900. Craigslist had a 1100 camo with little over 100 hours on it for $9500 and boy was that tempting. Bottom line for me was I want a small work horse and the ability to use hunting/fishing. If I lived in open country I would have bought the 900 or 1110 hands down based on $value but fact is my property is so thick that you can't see past 50-75' anywhere. Only you will know how you intend to use it and what machine will make you the happiest

I got concerned when guys said it was under powered but soon realized that mostly non-owners had those thoughts. Owners did agree that it could use more to be a better machine but said it had all the power in the world to do what they needed to. The ones that don't like the 500 are guys that don't own them and for them a different machine was a better fit, more speed or maybe more payload....... I say go with your gut and choose what's right for you.:2cents:

I've owned/own 12 different Kubotas over the past seven years and now my last one the twelveth one is a RTV1140. I've had many different sizes and been on the Kubota tractor forum a few years. I've thought it has been sort of funny that there are some people that don't own a certain tractor that know alot about them and often times have more to say than someone that does own them. I guess it's part of an open forum. In the past I've sometimes asked questions and specified that I wanted to hear from someone with actual owner experience which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. There is also the recommendations of the best machine always being what someone bought/owns (they chose it so it has to be the best one for all) and they have no experience with any machine other than the one they own. Also part of the open forum. I've learned to read between the lines and also over time I've identified the people that give generally good advise based on their unbiased experience/opinion.

Well, I went ahead and purchased the RTV500. I got a fair deal I suppose. Got a camo one with HD worksite tires, brush guard and roof for the price of a basic (naked) orange one. Saved about a $1000. Brush gaurd will be here in a couple days. I'll get up some pics this week. Thank you everyone for all your input, I feel I will be satisfied with the 500. Its size and 0% financing played a large roll in my desicion.

Congratulations!!! :thumbsup:I believe you'll enjoy it. I got mine out today to take my neighbor down the hill to where his 4wd truck was stuck. First time I had it out in slick snow and it was flawless. It went so well that I drove thru fields instead of the road some of the time and it didn't stutter. Gave the Grands some riding time. Believe I've already got my moneys worth out of it in less than a month.
