Snow It's Snow Time???

I picked it up at Lowes. I have a cab for the winter and a bikini top for the summer. The nice thing about it is the tool bracket on the back. Nice and heavy duty. That is were I add my ballast for snow work. I think it was about $200 but well worth it. I actually bought the entire rig at Lowes. I think I am into it for about $3500. Tractor, 50 inch mower deck, 42 inch blower, and all the tops and chains

Many thanks Timber. Looks like a great set-up for the money. I'll be checking out Lowe's, it's a lot easier on the old bod with a cab.

I find that the less engines to maintain the better off I am at least - I find the Cub's when they mean "requires no tools to remove"- they actually mean it ! (at least for the mower deck)
I find the way the attachments are designed these days takes in account the owner in labor saving steps to reduce install times.
After you do it once or twice, you can get things accomplished real fast, and have your machine converted for winter in no time at all. I recently converted this machine from its annual fall mulching/leave removal to snow removal in about 1 hour. I even removed the cab and put it back on....thats down from about 2 hrs from when I first got it and I didnt have the cab then...

Here is the answer to the original question. NO. I just got a 190-341, and there is no easy way to modify either the tractor (gt-1554)or the snow thrower. By easy I mean nuts bolts and saws all. I would be willing to do some welding if I was certain of the outcome, but I think I need to pass on this one and try to get my money back on the snow thrower before I render it useless.

I now am the proud owner of a 190-341 lawn ornament:eek:

Hello all. Timber just a question to you. I just got the exact same snow blower for my Cub LTX 1040. Now I had a hard time with it at first as the 1 Tensioner pulley I put on backwards (Yea I busted the Snow blowers belt 15 mins after using it. dang 38$ mistake) But I was not that impressed with the snow blower. I mean the snow was moved, but the chute seems to clog all the time and the heavy stuff it seems you really have to crawl to get through. I live here in Depew NY (Right out side of buffalo NY) and we just got 2 feet, and it seems that the snow blower really did not like it. would you have any suggestions as it seems you know what you are doing and I am new to this snow blower?

i have the same setup as both you and Timber..my cub is the 1050 with Kohler 25hp engine, electric pto. I bought the MTD 42 inch blower attachment last year....Once I figured out how to get it all hooked up (thanks Timber) it worked great all last year..yeah you aren't going to go full throttle into 1 foot snow piles..it just don't work like that. I have a 200ft driveway, and I find a little less than mowing speed works well, and yes, it has the same issues as any snow blower..if the snow is too wet or too deep it will bog down, clog the chute, etc. You'll get that with any blower.

Right now, we got 19 inches of snow between yesterday and this morning....I went out and blew snow 2 times yesterday. my blower worked really well. THe snow plow had come through on the road, and pushed up a good 30 inch high wall of snow at the end of my drive, and while I had to drive very slow, it cut through the pile pretty easily.

I did however run into a problem, maybe you guys can help me with...the second time out blowing yesterday..my PTO kept cutting out (shutting off)...At first I thought snow was getting caught in the blower and bogging it down..but the pto is actually shutting off when I hit the snow. it don't matter if it's 2 inches or 8 inches..I'll engage the blower...push the gas pedal to start moving forward into the snow pile and it shuts down....now I found that going DOWN my driveway it did this constantly..but coming back UPHILL towards the house it didn't shut down at all?

Is there any switch, wire, or something that could be doing this? I did notice too that my blower willl also stay engaged in reverse too, usually the saftey shutoff will shut it off when I back up....could there be something wrong with the switch near the forward/reverse pedal??

Holy smokes, forcrz6, you got 2 feet of snow near Buffalo just this morning? It's raining here in Toronto, jst a short distance away, and we have had nothing but rain so far!

Well you know how it goes here. North towns will get 0 inches and or a dusting and then we will get 7 feet not even 4 miles away. Ill tell you This lake is crazy, and if it does not freeze soon we will be in for a long winter.

I think my main thing is that I am not use to this blower at all. I had the plow/dozer blade on the mower and that worked great for anything up to 5 to 6 inches. Anything after that I would have to fight with (2 passes or more) I just that I would roll through the snow with the plow and now with the blower it just seems so slow. I think it is just a mental thing I have to get over. That and now I am just in fear of busting another belt. 38$ is not cheep.

Fly weed. Let me just ask this as now I am scared to death of breaking another belt.

The Lower drive belt (The 1 that goes from the Blower to the underneath of the mower) there is 1 idler pulley. Do you happen to have a picture of that pulley in the correct position and where the spring goes. I just really want to make sure I have it correct. Thanks ahead of time.
