was ordering the parts for my 359 to 59 blower gearbox conversion and was going to add a new cutting edge to the list...until i saw it is $100! that seems a bit extreme.

is there a 'cheap' alternative? worse case i can probably rehab the one i have and get some more years out of it.

thanks.

Simply go to your local metal supplier and buy 5/16" or 3/8" x 3" flat stock and bolt it in place of the old one.
That is all the origional blade is!
OK, you need to drill the holes, use the old blade as a template.

Is it really that easy? Isn't it hardened steel in the blades? Does it matter if it is hot rolled or cold rolled?

i figured it also had a beveled edge (or 2 if reversible) and square holes for the carriage bolts.

That is all I got, "beveled edge" you can buy it buy the foot. I did not pay for mine as I mentioned it to a neighbor that I blew out his driveway last winter and he picked it up for me. I did price them out about two years ago and "think it only would have been about thirty bucks for a five footer.

You should be able to turn it around and wear the other edge back to the bolt holes. At least I did on my 46", I am assuming it is the same on the 59".

i haven't looked at it closely enough yet to know if it has already been reversed. i had just noticed that the original edge is rolled up a bit, probably from hitting rocks. since it's rolled up, i'm thinking there is still enough to give it a resurfacing w/ the grinder.

it's not high on the priority list, as i have to fix the gear box and modify the mounting a bit before i can even use it. was just going to order one while i got my other parts until i found out how much it was. was figuring about $30!
