While on a truck forum i read someones sig. and thought it was funny and wanted to share it with ya'll.

Now i'm paraphrasing it because i couldn't find it again to copy and paste

"The problem with America is Stupidity, I'm not saying get rid of all the stupid people, but get rid of warning labels and let the problem solve its self"

I laughed for about an hr on that one.

Put it here in the safety section because to the "warning labels" part.
Yall have a safe an merry Christmas

He said when you dress that way you are careful![/QUOTE]

Its worked for me in different applications. When the guards are there people tend to count on them. When they are missing I tend to stand clear.....but once evrything has been shut down its a lot easier to install that PTO shaft, or change that blade/belt/bulb

I was told one time the safest clothing to wear when using a chain saw was a pair of shorts and bare feet in sandals. He said when you dress that way you are careful!

That what I used to do when I was much younger. People used to say, "You know the guy the crazy neighbor." Needles to say, in spite of few closed calls, so far no chainsaw injuries. I have all the safety equipment now and I am using it. I guess I matured and slowed enough not to take chances.

I can agree somewhat on the warning labels but not all of them. I think the Warning hot liquid on a coffee cup is insane,-placed there because a woman burned herself when she spilled some between her legs and claimed not to know it was hot.
Warning on the cruise control in the manual or a popular RV that the vehicle does not drive itself when on cruise control-again because a woman put it on cruise and go up to go make a sandwich and claimed not to know that it wouldnt do that.
I could name lots more, but we have come to the "not my fault that I did something idiotic and hurt myself so someone else has to pay" mentality.

Good warning labels are stuff like on grinding wheels "do not exceed xxxx RPM" this type of labels are necessary in life.

Some warning labels are needed to keep the fly by night outfits in check, but instead of warning labels how about..
USE COMMON SENSE ;)

To go along with Thomas' thought.

My favorite warning label:

"This machine does not have a brain; USE YOURS!"

Taken from the service manual for a 1984 Honda CR125: "WARNING: Do Not Check Fuel Level With Open Flame"

It never did say why. I think it shoulda been followed by "You Could Be Seriously Killed".

Haymaker, I know a guy who did that with his cigarette lighter when he wanted to check how much fuel was in the fuel cell in his race car. He's a bodyman in an autobody shop, so you would think he's know better, but sadly he didn't. Fortunately for him, his wife, his very young son and his neighbours, he didn't have an explosive ending, just caught the gas on fire. He managed to smother the flames and put it out but still...WTF was he thinking???

You're right about the warning label on the coffee, but it wasn't put there because of the lawsuit. It was put there because of some stupid lawyers. The $2M lawsuit against McDs would have been won regardless of any warning. Everyone likes to say it was a ridiculous lawsuit, but they clearly don't know the details. I think the amount may have been excessive, but the lawsuit was legitamite. From what I remember reading, they were giving free refills and purposely having the coffee at a SUPER hot temperature to prevent people from being able to drink it while at the store.
