Reverse Osmosis

This can get pretty involved. In addition to our reverse osmosis we have a softener and a water filtration system. The water filtration system filters out the iron and sulfide. No iron to stain toilets and tubs. No stinky sulfide water. The water filtration back flushes as does the water softener. A lot of good well water down the drain with the back flushing of the filtration system and softener. The reverse osmosis is on the tail end of all of this. We do have excellent well water delivered to our house. But there is a dollar cost for this and these systems do require maintenance. Depends on how far one wants to go for the water.

thanks for the replys I now understand, I thought Ro & softner were the same animal because they accomplish the same thing, less TDS in the water. but now i realize they do this in 2 different ways. I'am assuming they don't make a whole house system with RO, just for drinking water because it's to slow to "cook" to say fill a bath tub??? also if i go with a whole house softner can this be hooked up to my septic system or will that cause problems for the septic??? thanks

Well there is a whole house RO system but they use alot of water and are not very efficent. I personally have a clorination system at my well which then comes to my house then through the retension tank, then the Iron Filter, then the softner, then to the rest of the house and the RO under the kitchen sink. I was looking into a whole home RO system before but the cost was rediculos and the benifets were not that great. Here is what chemicals do what:::

Aztec Iron Filter--- Clorine Pellets
Water Softner--- Softner Salt
RO Systen--- Filters

I would personally just get the softner and the RO system for your kitchen. My system will do 50 GPD but i might use 10-20 at most. We find that it has paid for itself in the fist 6 months. Just some food for thought.

No, a water softener will not cause problems for the septic. However, you may choose to bypass the septic system. It was easier for me to pipe the drain on my softener to an old willow tree, rather than tapping into my house's drain system.
