Greg - Wolverine doesn't offer a 1"x6" anymore. The closest is a 1-1/2" x 6" and I'm pretty sure it won't clear the foundry mark. For my tractor, I think the 3"diameter will fit and I plan to make a 3" dia carboard template first to see if it will fit with one on each end of the oil pan, allowing the foundry mark to lie in the middle between the two heating pads.

My bad, it is actually the 1.5"x6" model 9.1 that I installed in pairs. I corrected my previous post. But then again I have a 354 and a 454, so the pans are understandly a bit larger than yours. But if a pair of that 3" model 9 works for you - all the better !!

Greg, I have a 6.0 qt system so maybe I was a bit undersized. My Kats is 5 years old or and I must have gotten a good one.

As for the high failure rate one thing I feel contributes to this is once folks install them they should run the tractor till it comes up to temp, about 80C, then top off the fluid. You must purge the air. Just like a hot water heater. I have seen many of them with failed elements when folks just install and fill with water. You should really run the water at all fixtures for 2-3 minutes to purge.

The Kats that I installed last year failed to function this year. I only used it 3 or 4 times because we had very little snow after I installed it. The thermostat controler in the heater is fine, I just don't have any conductivity through the heater element. I paid around $30 for the one I got last year, it was "made in usa" or so the package said. I ordered a replacement from Amazon ($18) it is out in the barn at the moment, I am not sure where it was made. It is possibly that I didn't get all the air out of it last year. I will be more carefull with this one and see how it works out.

Mine is still running strong. I have used it 3 or 4 times this year with all the snow we have been getting.

I installed the new heater yesterday. The package had no mention of where it was made, not that it matters to me as long as it works. I followed the instructions and started the tractor and let it run about 20 munutes to get all the air out of the system. Now that I am prepared perhaps we won't get any snow this year...:laughing:

I used mine for the first time yesterday. I have to make a note to myself. It is very easy to tell if it is working, because I can hear is sizziling when I pluged it in. Tractor started instantly after about 20 minutes of heat.

I should mention that the new one I installed did not claim to be made in the USA like my old one did. Perhaps its Chinese heritage will get along better with my chinese tractor...

I had a kats low heater it failed and replaced it with a second failed one. I'm going to put a oil pan heater on. I have a mag one that I put on the starter after putting it on the oil pan.

I like to use my glow p for about 20 sec then let off them then one more time before turning over. My battery gage drops then comes up as I have it turned on. It's a visual of how long I have it on for.

to all who live in the cold glow plugs great thing some ar wired in and stay on until you turn the key back of --then hit your starter ---as for all the heaters there is not always a plug in to be found for this remedy go to 10w30 DMO the heaver the oil the sooner your going to spin a crank bearing seen it happen many times
