Glad to have been of some help..This has been the shortest Gear vs Hydro thread I have seen. Enjoy your new tractor, which ever one you decide on, you will get a lot of use out of it, I am sure. I sure have enjoyed all of mine.

Well i am not over the hill but i can see it from here . I own 2 tractors one gear , one hydro and the hydro is so much better, safer and as mentioned anyone can drive it . that comes in very handy around a farm !! it is so smooth to operate and to hook up attachments once you use one you will never go back

Guess I will be the odd one out. I will take the sync/shuttle any day other than for mowing around a lot of trees etc. And yes I do have one hydro.

Just curious, have you operated a FEL with the hydro tranny? Yes no doubt the hydro is better for mowing, especially if there is any trees to mow around, on straight stretch's it doesnt matter. But for FEL work, it cannot be beaten. I was just wondering as the McCormick seems to have the shuttle, and the JD probably has the power reverser, is the Bolens the hydro?

...using it to remove and clear older pine trees that have been dying out for years...
Get a root grapple from the start... or at least a bucket mounted grapple. ...also, no question, HST.

I've used a FEL with both hydro and shuttle equipped tractors. Once I got used to using my left hand instead of my right foot I found little to no difference between the two.

Yes I have used a hydro tractor with the loader, I still much prefer the shuttle as evidenced by the 2 tractors I own with the shuttle and loaders. Everyone has opinions, I am glad they make both so everyone can buy what they like. Like chocolate/vanilla I guess.
