TK100M slope question

I just purchased an almost new TK100M tractor. It is a crawler type and is New Hollands mountain version. Since a large part of my tractor work I do is disking fairly steep hills, I was wondering if anyone has an idea as to what is the maximum degree I could disk. New Holland will not give out that information, all they say is the crawler mountain tractor will work hillsides that are 20 degrees steeper than a wheel tractor, whatever that means. The tractor is 69" wide, has 18" grousers and I am told weighs about 10,000 pounds total. Any information would be appreciated.

You have to know the location of the center of gravity and the total width of the machine to even take a stab at that number.

The total width of the tractor is 69". New Holland told me the center of gravity is dead center of the width, which would be 34 1/2". From ground to center of gravity is 46 1/4" in height.

Given those dimensions, you should be able to take a maximum of 36.3° slope (arctan 34.5/46.25 =36.3°) to be at the threshold of tipping with no other loads considered. That's about a 75% grade.

In most conditions, a steel tracked machine will slide sideways downslope before tipping.

I checked with NH, the allowable slope for a TK series is: uphill 28 degrees, downhill 20 degrees, sidehill 30 degrees.

Strange your dealer told you that, that's the kind of info that should be given.

On a side note, those angles are not tipping angles, but engine safe operation angles, provided the oil level is full.

Some dealer personnel don't know where to access that info, or won't bother to do it.
