Deer spotlights?

It would be considered interrupting a legal hunt here because shinning is a legal activity governed by the DNR under our state game laws. I would think it illegal in every state to shine a vehicle at any time for any reason. Brightness of vehicle lighting is regulated by the state. Shinning a vehicle on the road could easily wind up resulting in the wrongfull death or injury of the occupants.

Just a thought.... There seems to be two distinct views on this subject. At this point, a simple YES/NO vote would be sufficient, and probably prevent the thread from being "junked".

Then the agruement could shift to "YES it's illegal, or NO it's NOT legal". LOL!

Thats where window shades and curtains come in handy, even some aluminum foil.I use them to keep the sunlight out when working nights the sun is brighter than a spotlight.

In my area most spotlighters are looking to shoot. I call them poacher-junky-scum. I moved my kids room to the other side of the house where they are less likely to be shot. I've jumped up at 2:30am while PJS shot 6 shots from a .40 out of their car into my front meadow - after they shot a neighbors horse. I've laid in a field until midnight clutching a .357 waiting for PJS to return after shooting a deer in my meadow. It's a gateway to poaching and should be illegal.

Illegal in my state, yet have had it happen outside my house. People shining from vehicle, shooting from vehicle, on a public road, not on their property nor shooting on their property, shooting into a field full of horses.
Couple weeks ago was visiting relatives. It was 11 pm, people spotlighting in a rural neighborhood, houses on 5 acres. They get out of their vehicles, walking up in the woods between 2 houses shooting in the dark. kind of scary when you think they could just shoot in your direction.

It isn't a gateway anymore then letting people out their doors. If someone is going to poach a deer they are going to do it regardless of what the laws say. In New York it is illegal to have a firearm in a vehicle if there is a spot light in there. It doesn't matter if your using the light at the time either, its still illegal. So if your spot lighting and an officer stops you to question you and finds a gun then your toast.

Personally, I find it fun to spot light deer. However, I only spot on my own ground and on other ground my friends own. Its just amazing how many different critters you will see at night. If you enjoy looking at animals then you would understand this :)

I understand that aspect - I too enjoy seeing what's out there, but you're the only spotlighter I've heard of to only do it in their own yard, and even with the slightest bit of respect. It's a gateway in my opinion because - if you can't see it, you can't shoot it.
