Getting ready to purchase a plasma, any one have any knowledge of Longevity plasma cutters? They look very similar to Everlast, but reviews on other forums put them on top mostly due to QA and customer satisfaction. Their web page seems a little more informative also. Looking for a comparison between these two only. I have no interest in being told to save my money and buy Miller, Thermadyne, or Lincoln. I know theirs is a better product, have more dealers, and they will be around a lot longer. I also know I have about $800 to spend, and I want a plasma cutter next week not next year when I have the additional $1000 saved.

Thanks for any opinions.

I have the Everlast PP60, so far it's cut everything I've thrown at it. I went with Everlast simply because Mark posts here all the time and is very easy to get a hold of. I really can't help you much with Longevity (I think they may have been around a little longer, don't know for sure). Mark states that Everlast no longer sells the same units with a different skin, that they have their own design. I would check to see if Longevity does the same.

Over on one of the Welding forums they tested both a logevity and an Everlast while using a HyperTherm 45 as the base. I know the Logevity had a problem but I suspect that any issue has long since been dealt with. No matter which one you choose I hope you share the good and bad.

You can get an American designed and built Hypertherm Powermax30 in the $1000 price range. It has the best service and support....and will sever up to 1/2" materials, will operate on a 120 volt or 220 volt input power line. With a unit like this you will be sure to have support from the manufacturer for as long as you own the machine. Many people look at the power rating of a plasma system by its Amperage (Powermax 30, other brand 60)....but the tru performance is with its duty cycle rating, it killowatt output (amps x arc volts) and its torch design (hypertherm designes and manufacturers its torches in Hanover, NH USA). You can go to the local Hypertherm authorized welding distributor and try out the units....you will be amazed with the quality of the units, the ease of use, and the cutting power.

There certainly is a market for the low cost imports when that is all the budget allows. Another alternative is to watch for a used Hypertherm unit on Craigslist or Ebay.....there are more of them out there than any other brand!

There are more Hypertherm units available on the used market because Hypertherm is the largest (by far) producer of plasma cutters in the world. Hypertherm has been producing plasma cutting equipment since 1968 in its Hanover NH faculities. Good used models to watch for are the Powermax600, the Powermax30, the Powermax1000. These are all units with high field populations.....are all very serviceable, and often can be found at reasonable prices. There are over 55,000 of the Powermax 600's in the field....and similar numbers with the other units.

Have you considered the Thermal Dynamics plasma cutters? Check out cyber weld they have several different brands also.

What size are you using? Keeping the air clean and keeping up with consumables is with any plasma cutter. How do you like the one that you use? Do you use the highest size consumable in your machine or do you change out according to the thickness of the material being cut? I use a motor guard filter on mine and on my air compressor I put an extension of the drain plug so that it runs out to where it is easier to get to and the water collects in that and I can flush it out before I start using the air, that helps some too. The reason that I asked about what size consumable you use I was wondering if you have found a happy medium assortment of tips instead of having some of each. One thing that I like also is that the same consumables fits all of the torches in the cut master that keeps me from having to remember so much [I have a very small file room up there for remembering things].

i have a couple different drag tips.. etc.

I do use a big dryer canister at the back of the machine, and as you said.. I have an extended water drop drain after the pump.. etc.

can't remember size.. but is the one rated to cut 1/2" and sever 3/4
