I retired from the USCG in 2006.....went in in 1990....after 5 years in the Army....and 4 years in the Marines before that.....I went for the variety pack!
Sure had some interesting "experiences" along the way....

The Coast guard always had the smallest budget/recognition/voice of any military service. They became a bit more recognized after 9/11 and becoming part of the Homeland Security.

Wow Frank! What a plethora of experience. Did you have to do basic in Coast Guard?

Greg - ha, that brings back funny memories.....when I joined the Army in 1985, they wanted me to do basic over again....I said "NO WAY", that was a dealbreaker for me. Especially after Parris Island in 1979..... They relented and sent me to a 3 day orientation course at Ft Dix.
The Coast Guard put me thru a 6 week Direct Commission course.
So I got to start over a few times...E-1, W-1, & O-1.....!

1979? I went thru in 1982, had a former Navy gentlemen enjoying his second boot-camp tour :laughing:

I would have guessed maybe the Coast Guard requiring you to do basic again. Never knew of Army, Navy or AirForce requiring their basic on top of MC basic. Coast Guard would not have surprised me requesting it.

I took Diesel mechanics in high school vo-tec....instructor was former Coast Guard, he had quite an impact on me.

I've come to rely on the advice that I get from everyone on here. I've saved thousands of dollars on projects because of TBN and the great people on here!!!!!!

If I want to start a project, or find out about something, this is where I go to post a question.
