This morning at temps around 35* I started the tractor without the normal glowing time, to see if in fact this position of the switch is glowing the plugs, and it must do... because I turn to start the tractor right away and it took about 6-7 seconds to start and a large puff of smoke came from the exhaust,
so it will crank and run but takes longer to start, typically as I said before I would turn the switch on for around 10 seconds and then on to start and it would start right up in a matter of a couple turnovers, so I'm thinking my assumption of this type of ignition switch has the glow on the on/run position:thumbsup:

what did you find out Carey?

My first failed attemts were my fault probably, cause im use to it catching on the first or second stroke, which is instantly after i let the compression release go, so being use to this i let the key go after the normal split second of cranking after i release the compression release lever. so i never cranked it really for more than 1 or 2 seconds with it after the compression release. Had i not let it go im sure it would have cranked the first time.

I'm confused:confused:. Your profile says you have a YM1700. If so, you do not have glow plugs, other than TS, and it is, (should be), active only in the TS switch position.

DND just ran out before it Rains again over here. Yes I showed power to the TS when I Ran my Decompression or in Start 10.5 V. And 12.3 in Acc. I thought I would but wasn't sure. Still CRS. sometimes :confused2: getting better though.

I might have confused my self here on this statement, of corse it is TS not glow plugs, I must get a manual some day and read up more on the terms used for the technical parts of my tractor:D
and about the TS position which way are you saying suppose to activate or heats what ever it heats;) in order to start the engine? there is simply No turning my switch to the left either.

Do you have a clutch safety switch? (It interrupts the cable to the starter unless the clutch is depressed.) If you do have the clutch safety switch - put the transmission in neutral then turn the key to Start with the clutch engaged. This should send power to the Thermostart but not to the starter. After 10 ~ 20 seconds release the clutch to allow power to the starter too.

Are you sure about that? I never tried it, but I can't see it in the schematic . Unfortunately, I have neither the tractor nor the manual handy.

i dont think any of these yms had this feature? I know i have accidentially cranked it in gear for a second befor i realized it. Luckily it was still strapped down to the trailer and did not go anywhere but about 3 inches (i think the front strap had been loosened already, but cant remember).
