YM2001 has clutch safety switch as well. Can't start the tractor at all off it, unless you hold the clutch down far enough by hand to disengage the safety switch, still not recommended.

I was going to say that I'm sure my 1700 doesn't have the clutch safety feature although have heard of what your talking about California, on other tractors, I usually when putting my tractor up I'll shift it into neutral drop the bucket and box down, lock in the e-brake and then shut it down and turn the switch off and I do this religiously, although one time I was working on connecting the hydraulic line to the reservoir having to move the shifter out of my way, when I was through I went to start the tractor and luckily for me the loader bucket and box scrape was down to stop it enough for me to realize it was in gear, as I said this tractor can start up very quickly after the 1st initial start but I didn't give it a chance, and really should be a safety device such as you mentioned on any tractor, Heck there is one on my wifes Cadet lawn tractor,

I doubt thats a big sales part for the money Maybe in texaco. Here's a cheap and easy fix. Connect the wires together :p I ALWAYS SHAKE My GEAR SHIFTER To Make sure it's in Neutral. And With Good parking brakes applied it shouldn't move or even start for that matter.

can't see it in the schematic .
Safety Start Switch. Left-center in the schematic. Black/white wire tracers. It is a solenoid the size of a golf ball mounted above where the clutch rod goes into the bell housing, and the clutch linkage includes a tab to push the plunger up.

Maybe it's just on US Yanmars? I thought it was in the UTDA spec.

No no no guys, I suspect ALL Yanmars were all born with the clutch safety switch, (some have been by-passed), just never heard of the thermostart being activated in the start position when the clutch is disengaged, (switch open).

YM1900 does not have a clutch safety switch. Doesn't show one in the electrical diagram. The only safety item this tractor has is the operator and sometimes I am not sure about him:D

Sorry normde, it is not my intent to try proving your wrong I'm sure you know way more than I do when it comes to Yanmar tractor,
its I'm just trying to come up with a logical answer for both of us, I cannot argue the fact that my ignition switch might have been replaced in the past, only that I know it will only turn one way, ( to the right ) and that it will start faster if I let it sit on run for 10 seconds before attempting to start it,
here is something I found from Hoye tractor parts, this is to be an ignition switch diagram for my 1700
