Ford 5610s vs John Deere 5410...

   / Ford 5610s vs John Deere 5410... #11
My neighbor has a 5410 with MFWD and 541 loader uses it mostly to move large round rolls. He is very happy with it. I have seen a number of times have a roll up as high as the loader will go in order to stack it. Rears are load and the rear end stays on the ground. I would not buy a tractor with a loader unless it had MFWD on it. That is a good price and a great price if it has MFWD. Look at machinefinder.com and tractorhouse.com.

I would find out what it has been used for. If it has collarshift or syncshuttle transmission, dry clutch, make sure there is at least half inch of free play in the clutch anything less most likely means the clutch is going. If it has power reverse that is a wet clutch. Collarshift means you have to stop to shift gears.

I would agree with the light in the rear comment.
We have a 5410 mfwd with a loader, for about 5 years now. Overall a good tractor. I really like the synhcro trans, especially the 2-r shift, makes it really nice for loading round bales. The issue we see with the rear, is the tractor is narrow and light. We've got one of the rear tires up in the air more than any other tractor we've had. The tires are loaded, but if your loading silage bales you better be on flat ground or it gets hairy. My 271 MF seems to have way more traction than the 5410.
The other issues I've seen are its cold blooded in the winter, she really wants to be plugged in to get going under 40 degs. Also the flywheel and starter seem to be softer than most. But overall a good tractor.

I had the opportunity to use a 5520 to load 1800lb silage bales. With the rears set 60" on center (as delivered) it was terrifying to drive. I finally widened the rear track by about 10" and that made a different tractor out of it. 16.9x30 rears, loaded with liquid ballast, no cast iron.
