I'll just throw my 2 cents in. My 3110D has TS to the left & start to the RT. I also have clutch safety switch:)

just never heard of the thermostart being activated in the start position when the clutch is disengaged, (switch open).
Studying that schematic, it appears that the safety switch only interrupts power to the starter. So 'heat while cranking' continues in Start key position, regardless whether power is reaching the starter or not.

So this creates an opportunity for someone with the 3-position ignition switch: Wire the TS to Start. Hold Start position 10-20 seconds with clutch engaged (Heating the TS but not cranking). Still holding Start position, push in the clutch to begin cranking.

So you are saying TS is activated any time the switch is in the START position.. I find that hard to believe.

I have put a voltmeter on my 2002d and yes it is hot while key is in crank position. I haven't tried it without the clutch switch engaged but I will.

Sorry normde, it is not my intent to try proving your wrong I'm sure you know way more than I do when it comes to Yanmar tractor,
its I'm just trying to come up with a logical answer for both of us, I cannot argue the fact that my ignition switch might have been replaced in the past, only that I know it will only turn one way, ( to the right ) and that it will start faster if I let it sit on run for 10 seconds before attempting to start it,
here is something I found from Hoye tractor parts, this is to be an ignition switch diagram for my 1700

Interesting, my YM2000 switch that I got from Hoye about 8 years ago looks nothing like that. Both original and new switches are exactly like the YM240/195 schematic shows. Should be same for YM1700.

I'm back. Mine works exactly as California described. Don't push the clutch, turn the key to crank, and 12 volts goes to the thermostart.

Strange, apparently there is a new switch that might accomplish that, but I'm pretty sure mine does not. Unfortunately it will be 4 months before I can check it out. As I said, it doesn't show on the schematic.

Let me be sure I'm understanding this clearly, when you Winston and California are saying "start position" you are saying all the way as in cranking the engine over.... right? not in run position? as in the first click to the right that only powers up the sytem,.......... if this were the case than someone may have my switch wired in wrong, and am wondering if once I have started the engine and let go of the switch to the run position if the TS is still activated:confused: and if this were the case then seems to me something would burn out by now, that being both the switch and the TS-right! Hmmmmm:confused:

That is true. There are two positions on the key switch which transmit power to the TS igniter-- TS position and start position.
